Total Devotion

Today's Passage: Genesis 6:5-7
Memory Verse: Genesis 6:8

Thursday May 20, 2010

Are you devoted to God, Friends & Lifers? Are you totally commited to His will for your life? To be devoted to a person is to give all your love and attention to them. They never have to compete with others for your time and affections. When we are devoted to God, He draws us to Him. We're thrust into a lifestyle of intimacy that changes us forever.

Remember Noah? You should. Because if it weren't for him we wouldn't be here today. Genesis 6:5 says "Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So He said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them." There was so much evil on the earth that God wanted to destoy it. You think we're living in bad times? God was so grieved, He was even going to destroy the cattle and birds. The condition of the earth was so depraved, destruction seemed to be the only fix. "But Noah", verse 8 says, "found grace in the eyes of the Lord." Amidst all the evil, God found one man who was totally devoted to Him, and because of that man, humanity as we know it was preserved.

When you're totally devoted to God, it doesn't matter who's doing what. Other people can live any way they want, but a devoted heart can't be turned. Also, God reveals His plans to the devoted. When He found Noah, He set him aside and revealed to him how He planned to destroy the earth, but because of him mankind would be preserved. What loved-one, co-worker, or neighbor will get another chance at life because of your devotion? Did you know God has the compassion to save them because of the relationship He has with you?

So if you desire to walk closely with God, stay devoted to Him. If you need Him to cover and preserve you, stay devoted. If your life seems to lack purpose and direction, devote yourself completely to the will of God. You see where it got Noah....and us!

Prayer:
Father, I devote myself to Your will. I know my peace, salvation, and favor lies in being connected to You. Draw me closer to You. I need You to have total control of my life. I'm Yours forever, in Jesus' name. Amen
