Today's Passage: Genesis 27-28 (E-100 Reading)
Memory Verse(s): Gen. 28:13-15

Funny how it's extremely hard to receive assistance from the government if you're actually making an effort to work, but are struggling to pay your bills.  On the other hand, if you want instantaneous results -- help with buying groceries, housing for less than $20 a month, and medical care, you can have it.  All you need to do is bend the truth a little.  No big deal.  The system seems designed to favor those who know how to find loopholes around it, while hardworking people just sink deeper into an abyss of despair with no relief in sight.

Jacob, our man in today's passage, would have been one who knew how to work the system in order to get just what he wanted.  He probably would've tried every trick in the book: identity theft,  claiming other people's kids as his dependents, faking disability-- you name it, old Jake would've no doubt done it.  And guess who skillfully taught him everything he knew?   You got it: Mommy dearest.  Rebecca is the one who overheard Isaac tell Esau he was getting ready to bless him as the firstborn.

She told him exactly what to do to successfully deceive his father, and he hastened to accomplish it.  You see, Jacob was determined that he would be first in line no matter who he hurt.  But oh, read on and see the end of the tale before you buy into satan's lie that trickery pays off.  Fast-forward into Jacob's life and discover how miserable he became for trying to take shortcuts: his father-in-law deceived him and made him wait 14 years for the woman he loved.  And then, he had to wait even longer before his favored wife could have children.

It gets even worse. This same spirit of favoritism follows him and causes him to love Joseph more than all his other sons.  As a result, they get rid of him and drive the same sword of trickery into Jacob's heart.  It isn't until he is almost in the grave that his son, Joseph teaches him the powerful lesson of WAITING for your destiny to unfold.  If you belong to God, you don't have to beg or borrow to get your needs met.  And you certainly don't have to cheat or deceive  to walk in the blessing and favor of the Lord.  Just stand in your place, and don't move until you see it manifested.  Otherwise, short cuts really do end up taking longer.

Prayer: Father, thank You for showing me another example of why I should wait on You.  Every promise You've made will come to pass in my lifetime. I rejoice that you favor ALL Your children the same, so I don't need shortcuts.  In Jesus Name,  Amen.

Today's Passage: Genesis chapters 21 and 22
Memory Verse(s): Genesis 22: 12

Some friends and I were talking yesterday about an incident that had shaken us to our core.  Our last son had gotten lost in the ravines for a few minutes last year, and that short period of time stretched out like an eternity until we found him.  I found myself making the comment: "God promises He'll never put more on us than we can handle, and I'm so glad, because I know i'd never want to have to deal with that."

When I read today's passage, I began to think about my words a little more. WHAT IF the unthinkable did happen, and we HAD lost Landon that day?  If God had seen fit to take him home, what would I have done?  Would I have made up my mind that God had taken things too far and quit my walk?  Which led me further to this question: are there invisible lines I've drawn and labeled as a list of things God had better not EVER allow in my life or else?

Let's study Abraham's life for a bit.  A few chapters back, he was wondering whether he would ever be able to have a son of his own.  Then, when God finally gave him Isaac, He asked him to give the boy up as a sacrifice to Him.  The Word says God literally tested him, asking him to offer up his only son whom God knew he loved.  Did Abraham complain or question in his heart? We don't know, but we do read his actions when he takes Isaac and does exactly what the Father asks him to do.  And we all breathe a huge sigh of relief when God stops Abraham from killing his beloved son, providing an animal sacrifice instead.

Now: let's talk about us.  What is it that we consider "off limits" to God?  Is there anything we feel He can't have out of our lives, although He gave them to us in the first place?  Pastors Chad and Nette are ministering to us about getting out of "owner" mode with everything God has entrusted us with.  We are only stewards, so if He gives us what we've been asking for, should we then turn around and say no when He requires it of us?  Abraham was by no means a perfect man, but we can follow his example when it comes to completely trusting God with EVERYTHING.  After all, He only wants to see where our hearts really are.

Prayer:  Father, I often sing the words to the song, "My life is not my own.". But often they are just words, because I hesitate when You ask me for more of me.  Please forgive me and help me give you everything willingly, just like you gave Jesus.  My life is yours forever.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

*E100 Challenge

Father I thank You for who You are in my life. You are My Source, My Hope, and My Joy. I ask right now that You keep me in Your love and care. Without You, all I can and will do is fail. There is no one like You.

Lord, my prayer today is for obedience. I desire to be like Abram when You instructed him to go. I realize he had to trust You on a deep level. Give me that heart of trust. I no longer want to second guess what You've said. Where You go, I want to go. And what You say, I want to say.

Father, I'm thankful because Your promises are sure. As Your Word says, You are not a man that You should lie. So I recieve everything You've promised by faith. I also realize that my obedience activates those promises. So, my deotion is Yours. I'll not give it to my own agenda again. From now on, it's You and only You, in Jesus' name. Amen

The Equation of Faith

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

Today's Passage: Genesis 12 (E-100 Reading)
Memory Verse(s): Gen. 12: 1-2

If there were a mathematical equation for FAITH, it would have to be: F=bd/c.  In other words, FAITH equals BELIEF + DESTINY over CHALLENGE.  This is what was required for Abram to follow  the call of God and become the father of every population in Td nation.  Everyone wants to be relevant, you see.  We all strive to at least accomplish something that others can look at and say, "That life mattered.". And so Abram found himself faced with lacking the one thing that would allow him to become relevant.

Abram and his wife, Sarai, could not have any children.  Even if you had all the riches in the world but had no children, there was no chance of obtaining relevance.  Here is where Abram met God-- at the point where he was about to accept failure.  Therefore, when God offered him
the solution to his dilemma ("Go out from everything you know to a place that I will show you"), he really had nothing to lose.  Deep inside, he realized that there must be something about this God Who dealt in impossibilities, Who was not moved by the obvious fact that he didn't have a single child, so how could he become a great nation?  So Abram reached out and put his faith in something he could not see.

It occurred to me to ask this question: Why didn't God show Himself strong to them where they were?  Right there in Haran would have been the perfect place for Abram to turn around and say "Aha!" to all the ones who didn't think anything good could come out of his life.  Then God answered the question with this profound statement: If you remain where lack was discovered, it will always be identified as the place of your lack.  Abram would never have been able to live down the number of years he COULDN'T have children.

Furthermore, God will always require something from you as a seed offering to cause your answer to grow... Spiritual fertilizer, if you will.  God always requires us to step out from something known to the unknown.  If He doesn't push us, we'll stay right where we are.  On the way to this new place of destiny, Abram encountered many obstacles, including almost losing tbd woman he planned on having children with.  But God remained faithful above all else.  If we were to ask Abram whether he considered all this before stepping out, he'd probably say no, he just trusted and acted.  But then, that's what faith is, isn't it?

Prayer: Father, like Abram I find myself looking at a mountain of challenges.  Then I hear Your sweet, still voice calling me to places where all will be made new.  I will not be afraid, for You are there.  And the promise of Your presence is greater than any earthly reward.  I will go, and I will obey.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

What Did You Say?

Today's Passage: Genesis 11:1-11:9
Memory Verse: Genesis 11:4

*E100 Challenge

I was reading the Word today and the thought came to me: "Bad motives stop forward motion".  The thought peaked my interest because we're in a season of "Activation".  We've been challenged to start actively responding to God's Word with more than just good songs and church attendance.  But, when we set out to do something our motives have to be right.  We can't SAY we're doing something for God and then turn around and take the glory.  This was the mistake that was made by the people in today's passage.

The people in today's reading had a great thing going on.  They had good communication.  Can you imagine how hard it would be to get a bunch of different people to communicate effectively?  Families that live in the same home rarely possess that skill.  Members of the same church often have problems in this area too.  But the people in our text were.  The Bible says they spoke the same language.  God even made the statement that they were so united, He Himself wouldn't be able to withhold anything from them.  THAT'LL PREACH!  But they had one big flaw in their plans.  They forgot God.  They thought their success in communicating could substitiute for God's wisdom and guidance.  So, they sought to build a tower that stretched to the heavens so it could block God's influence.  Wrong move.  Listen friends.  God will never raise you up to have to compete with who you are.  The successes we're blessed with have a purpose.  The goals we achieve are part of a greater plan.  So, we can't become "I natured" when we're blessed with them.  We must see them as opportunities to bring glory to God.  That's all, nothing else.  The people thought building the tower would empower them.  But, all it did was set them up to be scattered.

In closing, enjoy the successes of life.  Know that God has His hand on You.  Whenever you get married, get a promotion, earn a degree, or have a child, it's all for God's glory.  It means your satisfaction comes from His pleasure.  The reason He does that is because He wants people to know how strong and loving He is.  He wants people to know a life devoted to Him is the best life one can live.  So, make sure He gets the glory for your achievements.  As for the people in today's passage, instead of building a tower, they should've built a temple.  A house where everyone could say:  Lord, You are good.  Your mercy is everlasting; and Your truth endures to all generations!

Prayer:  Lord, I thank You for Your love and guidance.  I will never take You for granted.  Thank You for the gifts and abilities You gave me.  I will use them to bring glory to Your name, not mine.  Forgive me Lord for the times I've boasted unto myself.  The reality is I'm nothing without You.  Therefore, I'm Yours forever...in Jesus' name. Amen.

The Rainbow In Life...

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Today's Passage: Genesis 8:1-9:17
Memory Verse: Genesis 9:16

*Taken from today's E100 challenge

Like many of you, I've dropped the ball more times than I can remember.  But God always shows up with grace and mercy.  In today's passage, mankind became full of sin and violence.  No matter how God tried to get their attention, they became more and more lawless.  I remember when I lived a life that rejected God.  I purposely used things of the world to try to drown out His voice.  Like mankind during that day, a life in service to God was far from my mind.

When I finally came to my senses, the rainbow appeared.  The rainbow only appears in a life that has nothing left but devotion to God.  See, the rainbow is a sign of a covenant.  And God can't strike a covenant with bad habits.  Nor can He strike a covenant with selfish ambitions.  So, He loves us enough to strip away those things.  And although the stripping is never easy, it's always necessary.  Also, when its over, you come out fresh and new.  Imagine how Noah felt when the dove brought back the branch.  Nothing is more reassuring than getting a peek at life during a season of death.  If Noah were able to talk to us today, he'd probably tell us how difficult it was on the ark.  He'd probably describe the aggravation of being on the water all that time.  "How long do we have to stay here"? He probably asked.  Although we sometimes lose sight of God's will when we aren't comfortable, we must remember God's chastisement is as essential to growth as His blessings.

In conclusion, be obedient to God inspite of the circumstnces.  If He tells you to build a boat in the midst of a drought, do it.  There's a divine purpose and plan on all our lives, therefore, it's important for us to stay focused.  Be encouraged in the fact that God's purpose leads to promise.  He won't lie to us or leave us hanging.  That's why He sends the rainbow.  He wants to remind us we have a promise.  He wants to remind us that a new beginning is on the horizon.  So look for the rainbow He placed in your life.  No matter how high the waters rise, He'll be there.  And soon, you'll be on solid ground again.  Blessings...

Prayer:  Lord, I'm so glad I get to live in Your grace.  I know there were times I rejected You, but now, I live in Your covenant.  I belong to You.  I appreciate this oneness I have with You.  Your love is so amazing.  So I choose to stay with You forever....in Jesus' name. Amen

Today's Passage: Genesis 6:5-7:24 (E100 Reading)
Memory Verse(s): Gen. 6:8

Happy Wednesday, Friends and Lifers! You know, it's an awesome thing to know what time we are living in. Matthew 24:37 tells us that the last days will be just like the days of Noah, and it wasn't until I read today's passage that I truly realized how real that saying was. In Noah's day, there was just as much evil as there is now. The Word says that it was nearly impossible to find righteousness in the lives of those whom God was searching for.

Then one tiny sentence jumps out at me: "BUT NOAH FOUND FAVOR IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD.". Out of all the evil that made Him regret making man, there was one in whom He could place His vision and anointing. Noah was the only one He could share His plan with and trust Him to carry it out to fruition, knowing he would not grow weary in well-doing.

Today's challenge is to be one of the ones God will find living righteously in this evil time. Be found faithful to hear, receive, and carry out the Lord's plan for His end-time revival. For as much as God hates what is going on today, He loves the sinner even more. He knows what destruction His wrath would cause, so His arm of grace is stretched out wide to everyone who will listen. Let's be the ones to build the new ark today. It's a place of safety wherever we allow the presence of God to go with us -- in our offices, in our homes, at our schools, and even in our sanctuaries. There, God can use us to bring healing and restoration to the hurting by sharing with them the precious Word of God. And through our obedience, whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Prayer: Father, I so want to be the vessel that You can use to carry out Your Will. May we as a people not be found wanting as You search from heart to heart for those who are willing to spring into ACTION for Your glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen,

A Matter of Choice

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Today's Passage: Genesis Chapter 3 (E-100 reading)
Memory Verse(s): Deuteronomy 28:1-2

Every month, my body re-familiarizes me with the constant reminder of the curse passed down to all women because of Eve.  Sorry, guys, but going through that certain time of the month with all its symptoms of feeling bloated, cramping, and just plain old uncomfortable is quite a challenge.  Makes you want to look up Sister Eve just to ask her: " REALLY?!  What were you thinking?"

If I were a man, I'd have a few questions to ask Brother "Forgot-to-use-my-authority" as well. Questions like, "Didn't you hear the Father the first time He said it that under NO circumstances were you to eat from that tree?" Who would really want to choose one moment's pleasure over a lifetime of doing everything the hard way?  Everytime I read that story, however, I have to bring myself back to the reality that it comes down to choices.

Hindsight is 20-20, I often hear people say.  But no matter how easy we find it to judge what Adam and Eve did wrong, or declare how well we would've passed the test, one thing is certain: there are various levels of that same test being given to the descendants of Adam and Eve everyday.  We are continually being asked to choose whether we'd rather have relationship with God, or whether we want to take a short cut -- which has never proven to be the best answer yet.

God is the greatest life coach, teacher, and father that ever existed.  He reveals to us ahead of time that the test is coming. Then He gives us the right answer just in case we get amnesia and forget which answer to pick.  Our problem is we still think it's cool to HAVE a choice.  We think having options of whether or not to get in agreement with God makes us feel more special or privileged than just obeying Him because He, our Daddy, told us to.  One of these days, I pray this generation realizes the pain and sting of choosing sin CAN BE AVOIDED.  Eve didn't have to give in; Adam didn't have to follow her lead, and WE can set a new trend by being the generation that chooses to seek the face of God rather than be exposed to the wrath that was intended for the devil and his angels.  It's simply a matter of choices.

Prayer: Father, I choose today to serve You.  As for me and my house, we will stand for righteousness.  We will choose to obey Your Word and seek relationship with You over the fulfillment of momentary pleasures.  We take our last breath for us, deny ourselves, take up our crosses, and follow You into abundant life.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Naked and Not Ashamed

Today's Passage: Genesis chapters 1 and 2
Memory Verse(s): Gen. 2: 25

The most marked and memorable period in history is the Renaissance period, a time between 1450 and 1600 when man repeated history rather than recreating it.  During the Renaissance, which means "rebirth", the advancement of scientific ideas was accepted as the new way to receive enlightenment, while the religious ideas of previous times began to be rejected as the final authority.  This period is also known as the period of humanism or secularism, when human beings turned to themselves for the answers and in the process turned away from God.

You will also note that the works of some of the most famous inventors, explorers, as well as artists and writers come from this time period.  Michelangelo painted the beautiful Sistene Chapel.   Leonardo da Vinci, another great artist, created the Mona Lisa painting.  William Shakespeare's plays are still studied by learners all over the world.  And Christopher Columbus ventured around a world that everyone believed was flat.  How was it so easy for all those gifted and knowledgeable people, who were so much like God, to reject Him so easily?

Because, like Adam and Eve did so many years before, man always chooses knowledge over relationship and submission.  After all the things God created and placed them in dominion over, man still strives to operate without the covering of The Master Creator.  Why?  Because God is a God Who requires total dependence upon Him, and complete adherence to His laws and commands.  In exchange for that submission is peace, life eternal, and no shame.

Whenever we choose our own path, mistaking the dominion God gave us for the right to ignore Him and live the way we want to, we are choosing to embrace the evil that is always lurking around us.  This evil automatically separates us from our Father and makes us want to hide from His love.  I'd rather be completely His and free from condemnation, than living a life of independence and ashamed of what I've become.  Let's all choose to dwell intimately with Him.  We will live naked and unashamed.

Prayer: Father, every time I've chosen my own will over Yours, my life has resulted in anguish and pain over bad mistakes.  Please create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.  May I choose time and time again Your love and protection over independence.  I want to walk in complete intimacy with You.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

"Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matt. 28:19) Mess."

Father, You are my joy and my song.  I'm thankful for the opportunity to live in Your presence.  As I mature in Your Word, I realize the life I live is not about me.  Life is given for an assignment.  Therefore, I exist to carry out Your will and pleasure.

Recieve Your glory today, Lord.  As we meet inside Your sanctuary, live big in our praise.  Let the shout of Your people draw Your attention.  Hear the heart of Td Nation as we give You praise.  When we worship, make our hearts pliable and ready for Your Word.  Let the depth of our devotion reflect the depth of Your love.  Feel free to respond to what You recieve, God.  Speak to our hearts.  Love us, heal us, restore us, save us, and redeem us.  Launch us into activation.  Inspire us to go and train everyone we meet about this way of life.  Stir up the giftings that will lead the broken to You.  Let our submission and our actions signify our devotion.  And we'll always give You glory and praise, in Jesus' name. Amen

It's Gotta Cost You Something

Today's Passage: Luke 14: 25-33
Memory Verse(s): Luke 14: 27

With the economy being so bad, there's a lot of talk lately about saving money using coupons.  I'm ashamed to say I always thought it was for elderly women who were retired and on fixed incomes.  Now I realize it's for anyone who needs a break financially.  There was a television show about a lady who managed to purchase a ridiculous amount of groceries -- something like five thousand dollars' worth-- for only a few hundred dollars over a period of time.  Everyone who saw the report agreed that it would be awesome to save so much money.

What they didn't mention was this lady's sacrifice that no doubt went into setting herself up to walk in such a blessing.  Every week, you must buy the newspapers containing the coupons (multiple copies).  In addition, you have to go online to the local grocery store websites for extra coupons that you could add to the ones you bought.  Furthermore, you have to find the time to look for weekly sales, clip the coupons that match the sales, and buy those items in question.

BUY, you may ask?  Yep-- I said it right.  In order to really benefit from the maximum savings, you have to INVEST money to purchase more than one of the items offered.  Sometimes you have to spend a certain amount of money before you can begin to see the savings.  What am I saying?  That this lady probably worked at couponing for quite some time before she saw such great returns.  In other words, you have to be willing to work at it over and over, as well as put in the time, money and diligence.

Sound familiar?  Our race as believers is no different.  We may fall into the trap of watching veteran Christians continue to be successful and become discouraged because everything may not be falling into place for us.  But nothing comes without a price, and nothing is worth holding onto if it didn't cost anything.  Today, we want you to concentrate on all the benefits of serving God with total devotion.  You'll find that those outweigh all the sacrifices you'll make for the rest of your life.

Prayer: Father, when I think about the price You paid for my salvation, I'm overwhelmed by the way You love me.  Please fill me with the desire to show You that same devotion.  Let every act of sacrifice bring You pleasure, and may others see the benefits through my life.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

It's All About Perspective!

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Today's Passage: Philippians 4: 4-9
Memory Verse(s): Phil. 4:8

You know how sometimes you take certain things for granted, and you don't realize you're doing it until a sudden brush with reality reminds you of it?  It happened to me yesterday morning.  I didn't know how much of a blessing my old minivan was.  Then it wouldn't start, and I had to walk to work.

When my eight-year-old son started to grumble about the walk, I knew it was an awesome opportunity to teach him what God's Word means about "thinking on these things".  I reminded him that we have so much to be thankful for.  For one, we only live two minutes away from the school by car, so it might take about eight minutes to get there on foot-- ten at the most.  I explained to him that other kids have to walk much farther to school everyday, and that not many of them have a chance to walk and talk to their moms on the way there.

He seemed to brighten up when I gave him this information, but God used our conversation to remind me of how easy it is to forget how blessed we are.  I guess that's why He put it in His Word exactly what we should focus on.  Whatever is true, worthy of respect, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent and praiseworthy,  God wants us to THINK on these things.

In other words, God wants us to believe, conceive, consider, esteem, feel, hold, look on, look upon, reckon, regard, repute, rethink, see, take to be, think of, and view.  And that's just the tip of the iceberg.  But all these words are ACTIONS that involve being responsible for our attitudes.  This is the ONLY way to walk in the peace that surpasses understanding.  It's all about perspective, folks!

Prayer: Father, Your grace is sufficient for me-- my past, my present, and my future is covered under Your wings.  So I will think on what is true, and give You praise for what You've already done to prove Your faithfulness.  I WILL NOT grumble or complain about circumstances that pop up to take my gaze off You.  Let me always have a praise on my lips so that You will always be glorified.  In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Don't!

Thursday January 20, 2010

Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 20:3-4 (Mess.)
Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

He'll say, "Attention, Israel.  In a few minutes you're going to do battle with your enemies.  Don't waver in resolve.  Don't fear.  Don't hesitate.  Don't panic.  God, your God, is right there with you, fighting with you against your enemies, fighting to win."

Okay, I get it.  Most people shy away from becoming Christians because of all the don'ts they think they'll inherit.  Many new converts are subjected to long lectures that are laced with what they can't do.  Seriously though, don't is not a bad word.  It actually establishes boundaries that keeps us from the devil's bondage and sin.  True to fact, just like our biological children are sometimes resistant to boundaries, God's heavenly children (us) are sometimes resistant to His boundaries too.

Here's the truth.  The devil really hates us y'all.  He plans our demise everyday.  We can't avoid his attacks, nor are we immune to his attempts to make us fall.  Let's face it, the time will come when we're going to have to do battle with our enemies.  Be not dismayed however, it is here we can put to good use some of God's don'ts.  First, don't waver in resolve.  This walk requires a made-up-mind.  Flipflopping will never get you through the valley and a double mind only leads to instability.  Set your mind on what God promised and don't recieve the devil's tactics as your reality.  If God said it, be settled on it.  Be steadfast.  Second, don't fear.  I heard someone say fear is only False Evidence Appearing Real.  Fear will paralyze you.  God's Word says He did not give us the spirit of fear, but a sound mind.  You don't have to be afraid.  Learn to face it and you will win.  Then God said not to hesitate.  That explains itself.  Hesistation brings failure and usually is the manifestation of a heart in rebellion.  Last, don't panic.  To panic means to experience sudden, overwhelming fear.  When people panic, they're void of rational thinking.  Also, the emotional ramifications can quickly turn into physical ones.  Meaning, it can cause elevated blood pressure, blackouts, and unsafe behaviors.

In conclusion, we are more than conquerers in any battle.  Providing we honor God's don'ts.  If you happen to know someone put off by the "don'ts" of our faith, give them this list: Don't waver, Don't fear, Don't hesistate, and Don't panic.  In other words, if you're planning to face the battles of your life without God......DON'T!

Prayer: Father I accept Your perfect will for my life.  If You tell me to do something, it's done.  If You tell me not to, I won't.  My total submission and devotion is my offering to You.  If You'll accept my life, I'll never turn away from You.  I'll remain safely within Your boundaries, as I walk in the liberty of Your spirit..in Jesus' name. Amen

H.U.M.P. Day!!!!!!

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

So many people in life pattern themselves to be like others.  Most of the time, we choose people to imitate based on what our gifting are.  For example, if I'm a singer, I might desire to be like my favorite singer.  Someone who has a gift to build things may have a famous architect in mind that he or she would love to be like.   But if a person does not possess those types of gifts, who can they look to as a role model?

Truth is, it's dangerous to want to be like any other human being no matter what your talent or gifting is.  If you're looking to be like anyone no matter what your gifting is, try being like Jesus.  Desiring to be like Christ would be ideal because, regardless of gifting, He possesses attributes that fit each and every one of us.

Our mission today is to find an attribute of Christ that you most need to practice or imitate, and display that to a friend, co-worker, or neighbor.  If you need more of Christ's love, show this attribute through giving acts of service or quality time.  If you need more devotion, plan a season of fasting and prayer that will help you draw closer to the Father and hear His voice more clearly.  What's the outcome of all this?  We can expect to have a multiple number of "little Christs" walking, talking and making an impact all around our neighborhoods.  After all, that is the reflection of the name by which we are called: CHRISTIANS.

Pre-Ordained to Fit!

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Today's Passage:Romans 8: 28-39
Memory Verse(s): Rom. 8:28

As believers, we are faced on  a daily basis with the struggle of walking the fine line between the belief in a pre-ordained course of events we know as destiny, versus the reality of things in our lives that don't quite seem to be lining up with who we are in Christ.  If you 've been there at one time, or are there right now, you'll be able to identify with the following questions.  Didn't I hear God right?  Why didn't that work out?  Why hasn't it happened yet?  Are things EVER going to fall into place?

As God always does with me, He interrupted one of my "winding-down moments" to teach me something about His relationship with me.  There's a cute little online puzzle game I like to play, and I began to notice the way it worked.  I would only be given a few pieces at a time -- some pieces that I recognized right away, and some that I'd have to wait until later to use because the pieces that they fit with hadn't been released yet.  Being me, I'd find myself trying to stick a certain piece in a particular place, but it'd just be kicked out.  So I'd keep trying it in other spots until it fit.  Then and only then would more pieces be added.

Get the picture?  Like the creators of those puzzles, God has already put our entire lives together.  But He knows there's no way we'd be able to handle the gravity of the whole thing all at once.  So He works backwards, giving it to us a few pieces at a time so that we can fit them in.  Here's where we run into problems.  Rather than trusting the One Who created us, we try to create some of the pieces on our own rather than using the ones that are already pre-cut to fit our lives, custom-made just for us.  We may try to decide to be something He never intended us to be.  Or, we might try to force things to happen that are not destined for a particular season, finding our own solutions for making those pieces fit instead of just waiting for the right ones and the right time.

Because our Father is so loving and patient, He has designed the game of our lives not to work right if we put the wrong piece where it wasn't meant to go.  The frustration we feel when this happens isn't meant to destroy us, just to get our attention back on His ultimate will for our lives.  May we stop struggling and rest in the fact that He really DOES know what He's doing with our lives.  All we have to do is let Him control every piece... In His time.

Prayer: Father, thank You for showing me such an awesome illustration about You.  The times I've failed to accomplish certain things were just times You wanted me to see were not ordained for that season.  I'm so glad You see my life as something You want to use.  Give me the heart to do things Your way, and wait for Your times and seasons.  I want the entire picture of my life to be completed for all to behold its beauty and glorify You.  In Jesus' Name, Amen

Freedom: It's Still Worth Fighting For

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Today's Passage: Ephesians 7: 1-10
Memory Verse(s): Eph. 7: 7-8

One of the most important spiritual blessings we enjoy is our redemption through the blood of Christ.  We didn't deserve it and didn't even want it when we were walking in darkness.  But because of His awesome way of knowing what was best for us and providing a way of escape since we couldn't, we now enjoy freedom from the enemy's snare.

C. S. Lewis, the writer of the classic novel The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, depicts this blessing of freedom through the character of Edmund, who disobeys the warning to stay away from the White Witch.  He not only follows her, but also accepts her food in exchange for betraying his family.  And just like the enemy does, the White Witch betrays him as well and puts him in prison, refusing to set him free until the ransom of blood can be paid for his treachery.

But the mighty Lion, who embodies the person of Christ, steps in and takes the penalty of death in Edmund's place, taking upon himself all the wrath of the wicked White Witch.  And Edmund is set free!  It's this same sacrificial existence that people like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King lived, not counting their lives worth living until others were walking in freedom the way God ordained it.  It's what we are called to do on a daily basis, standing up for the justice that people around us are hungry for.

God is calling us to be the MLK's of our time, banging on the doors of the oppressor Pharaoh, Satan himself, until he lets our people go.  We must not stop praying, nor hoping or believing that one day they walk free like we have.  We honor Dr. King and all other freedom fighters.  Freedom will always be worth fighting for.

Prayer: Father, You loved us so much that You were willing to watch Your Son become subjected to the shame and pain of which He was never guilty.  Thank You for my redemption.  May I spend the rest of my life walking in that freedom, and fighting for the freedom of others.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Today's Passage: Acts 17: 22-31
Memory Verse(s):Acts 17:28

My heart belongs to You, my God. Today I sit in the presence of my Savior. Today I live and breathe in Your presence. My life is Yours, and all my wants and needs are in You. You are the beginning of my life. Even those who don't know You spend their entire lives trying to find fulfillment, when it's You their hearts are longing for.

When I was conceived in my mother's womb, You were; when I came into being, You already knew what I would be. When I praise You, I no longer exist. In You I live, move, and have my being. When I rest in You, I become silent, waiting to hear Your sweet, still voice, my Lord and Savior.

That moment in time --yes, that sweet moment in time with You is a moment that can't be replaced by anything or anyone. May my time with You draw us closer and bring my will into line with Yours. May my priority be to live for You, love others, and call their hearts to Your kingdom forever. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Degrees of Glory

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

Today's Passage: 2 Corinthians 3
Memory Verse(s): 2 Cor. 3:17-18

I often hear of secret organizations where you have to go through "degrees" of growth or discipleship.  Not "degrees" as in certificates of learning, but "degrees" as in levels of understanding and maturity in the knowledge of what that organization stands for.  Even a skilled player of any game knows that, in order to be an expert, you have to pass more difficult levels, overcoming the obstacles or fulfilling the requirements that are necessary to get to the next one.

I guess that's why the Net version of this passage jumped out at me when I saw that there are "degrees" of glory available in our relationship with the Father.  I find it interesting that we strive to get to the next level at work, in our personal lives, in one of those secret organizations I was talking about, or even in a particular game we like.  But when it comes to pursuing God on a level where more is required of us, we become suspicious and fall back even farther.

So what is it that we do when God's glory shows up?  While our present-day representatives of Moses (pastors) are on the mountain seeking the face of the Father, are we believing God that His glory's on the way, or are we scraping our few trinkets together to create idols when we think no-one's looking?  Between Sunday and Wednesday, how close are we coming to pursuing deeper dimensions of God so that we can move on to greater levels?

This is how you can tell who's reflecting the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces: the ones who don't turn away when He manifests Himself.  Yes, there are things about us that God requires us to change in order to reflect His glory.  But because some of us are reluctant to change, we fall back into patterns of tradition and religion, denying the power thereof just like the children of Israel did.  So rather than lose ourselves in the freedom of God's love, we hasten to make Moses cover his face.  To tell the truth, we can't even enjoy the freedom of worship because we're so busy worrying about what we have to give up.  But if we're just willing to let go and trust God to be gentle in the process or removing what we need to be stripped of, we'll find that the journey to each "degree of glory" is flowered with the joy of getting to know Him more and more.

Prayer: Father, show me Your glory.  I'm not afraid of the sacrifice required to obtain it.  I bask in the wonder of freedom in You.  May I never run from the fire that burns things off of my life as well as fills me with passion to pursue more of You.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

"What Is Your Deepest Fear?"

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Today's Passage: 2 Corinthians 4:1-7
Memory Verse(s): 2 Cor. 4: 7

Have you ever seen the movie "Coach Carter?"  Well, this movie is about so much more than basketball. One of the main lessons in it is that we all have and can reach our potential regardless of our circumstances. Throughout the movie, Coach Carter repeatedly asks one young man, a particularly hard case, “What is your deepest fear?" This young man has no idea what the coach is talking about, nor do any of the other players. The young man goes through a series of destiny- detouring obstacles that could have cost his very life, yet he perseveres.

At the end of the movie, he comes to the coach and says something to this effect, “My deepest fear is not that I am inadequate; my deepest fear is that I am powerful beyond measure.". What a powerful statement! It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?” Actually, who are we not to be? We are children of God. Our playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around us. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some of us;it is in everyone. And, as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Have you ever held back in some area of your life because you were afraid of what others would say? Have you ever thought, I am not smart enough, good enough, wealthy enough? Or, perhaps you think you have made too many mistakes. None of this matters.  What matters is that we pursue our God- given destiny using the gifts, talents, and skills He has placed within us. Is everyone going to love and applaud us for being who God made us to be? Most certainly not. Will we be talked about and discouraged by others?  We almost certainly will. Nevertheless, for the few negative ones, there will twice as many that will support, encourage and be inspired by us. So, do not be afraid of your light.  Let it shine. Be the brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous person God intends you to be.

Prayer: Father, thank You for reminding me that You have placed greatness in me -- not so that I can walk in pride and feel like I'm better than everyone else, but so that Your glory can be revealed through me.  May my focus be to make You famous in everything I do -- especially in the way I shine for You.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

It's Your Turn!

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Today's Passage:Numbers 23: 19-20
Memory Verse(s): Galatians 6:9

God uses many ways to get messages to His people.  He'll use a sermon, prophetic word, a song, and even visions or dreams.  So if you don't mind, I'll share a dream I had the other night.

I was seemingly awakened to the vision of a little girl asking her father to take her to the carnival that was arriving soon.  "Daddy, will you take me to the fair? I want to ride the carousel."  "Yes, baby," her daddy said.  "I'll take you to ride the carousel."  "You promise?" The girl asked.  "Yes.  I promise," her father said. The girl spent the entire day in excitement when Opening Day arrived.  That evening, she got dressed and waited for her daddy to take her.  "Alright baby," her father said.  "Let's go."  When they arrived at the fair, they turned toward the area where the carousel was set up.  But much to the little girl's dismay, there was a long line in front of it.  It seemed to her like every girl in town was waiting to ride the carousel with her father.  But she was still so excited, she was willing to wait.  To her surprise, however, her father looked at her and said: "Alright, let's go home."  The little girl was overwhelmed with disappointment.  "But Daddy, you promised."  Her dad replied, "I know, baby.  I promise.  You'll get your turn."

The same thing happened each night they returned to the fair.  As a matter of fact, the line in front of the carousel seemed to get longer every night.  The little girl could see the smiles on the other girl's faces as they got on and off the ride, only to have to leave without her turn.  The last day the carnival was open brought a wave of emotion.  The little girl still wanted to ride the carousel, but she had almost given up because of the long lines.  Much worse, it was even longer the last night they went.  And as he previously had, her dad just turned away, returning home without a ride.  Early the next morning, the girl's father got out of bed and got dressed.  He went into his daughter's room and gently shook her.  As she rose from her sleep, her dad told her: "Get dressed baby, today's your day."  She didn't understand what he meant.  He couldn't have been referring to the carousel.  The fair was leaving that day.  As they left the house, she soon realized they were headed to the place where the carnival usually was.  Upon arrival, they got out of the car and walked in.  All the rides were being broken down and put on the back of trucks.  But when they got to the carousel, it was still intact.  The girl's father went up to the operator and shook his hand.  Then he turned to the girl and motioned for her to come.  "Pick your horse", the man said.  She picked the pink one, of course.  She got on the horse as her daddy stood next to her.  "Hold on tight," he said.  The little girl was able to ride the carousel twice, for as long as she wanted to.

I don't know who this is for.  God has promised you some things and it seems as though everyone is getting blessed with what your Father promised you.  But if you stay faithful to Him -- yes, if you trust Him --  the time will come when you'll feel Him get your attention and say: "Today is your day."  And when that day comes, there won't be a line, anything man-made, or otherwise, in your way.  You're going to have to hold on tight.  Because His promise will turn out to be more than you ever asked for.

Prayer: Father, I'm so glad You know what's best for me.  While I'm having to wait, You're teaching me character.  I'm learning to trust Your voice and Your hand.  I'm growing in my ability to depened completely on You through the process.  And not only that; I'm understanding that You want me to encourage others who may be having to wait, just like me.  When I come to the place of the promise, You'll get the glory for so much more than the eye will be able to see.  So I praise You in anticipation for the joy of knowing and loving You through it all.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

H.U.M.P. Day!

Wednesday January 12, 2010

Me, me, me.  What about me?  We've had that mentality since the day we were born.  We believe if we don't look out for "yours truly", no one else will.  According to the world's standards, part of that is true, but thank God we don't live by those standards.  God's Word says "Give, and it will be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over".  In other words, our me, me, me, has to become our them, them, them.

Our mission is to discover ways to unlock the "giver" inside us.  Let God point you toward a person, family, or area outreach organization to target.  He'll tell you what to do.  And remember,  when you give, you'll certainly get.  If you desire to walk in blessing, be one.  Happy HUMP Day!

Reap Right, Sow Right

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Today's Passage: Romans 8: 1-17
Memory Verse(s): Galatians 6: 7-8

Sir Isaac Newton, the mathematician and physicist from the 17th century who came up with the laws of motion that govern our known world would probably dispute the statement I am about to make.  But I believe the man knew of the existence of God, and maybe even came to have a relationship with Him.  The reason I say this is that one of those laws pretty much sums up what this passage says: every action results in an equal and opposite reaction.

For major decisions, we like to think that we're doing well by spending valuable time weighing their consequences and praying for wisdom before we act.  But we often ignore the fact that seemingly minor, everyday decisions like what to eat, how to treat our loved ones, and how we spend our time also have consequences.  That is why we need to walk in the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit daily.

As the Word says, whatever we sow is what we shall reap.  We are warned not to deceive ourselves into thinking we are fooling God when we make everyday decisions without consulting Him.  This is a spiritual as well as a natural law that will not change once it has been set into motion.  It's also very important for us not to fall into the trap of buying into the "modern" values that are quickly replacing Christian morality, even sneaking into our homes through the media.  This is the antiChrist spirit in disguise, lulling us to sleep and making sexual perversion and blatant disobedience of God's laws seem acceptable.

But God loves us enough to be consistent and upholding His standard of holiness.  If we as His creation choose to invest in or cater to the things of the flesh that bring temporary gratification but no lasting fulfillment, that is exactly what our harvest will be: broken homes where marriages don't last long enough for the ink to dry on the licenses that were signed, children who develop zero respect for human life, and a school system that is failing to develop law-abiding citizens who will join the work force and continue to make our nation great.  But if,  through the loving guidance of the Holy Spirit, we make decisions that invest in our eternity, we will reap a harvest of spiritual things.  It's never too late to return to doing things God's way in every area of our lives.

Prayer: Father,  I repent for being shallow and easily forgetting the life of self-denial You are calling me to.  In order to live a life of action, I have to be pro-active by depending on Your Spirit to show me the areas where I need more wisdom.  I open my heart to You, and invite You to guide me every minute of every day.  I truly want You to be glorified in this life.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Prepare Us For Action

Monday, January 10th, 2011

Today's Passage: Galatians 5:13-25
Memory Verse: Galatians 5:22

Yesterday, the Lord used our worship team to speak prophetically the Word that He had already given our pastors: "prepare us for action".   God is such an awesome Father.  He never puts the cart before the horse, so He wanted us to open ourselves up for consecration in order to be ready for what He's about to use us to do.

We've always known that God is raising up ALM to be a mighty, impactful ministry in this region of Florida.  But there is much preparation to be done so that whatever we accomplish by God's Spirit will add to His glory rather than subtract from it.  So one thing we must all begin to pray for as part of this preparation is that God give us HIS heart for hurting people.  It is extremely important that we see those we're desiring to help and reach the way He sees them.

It would profit the kingdom nothing if we fail to understand the reason we're called to reach out to nonbelievers like we never have before.  We are literally HIS mouthpiece, and whatever we communicate to them must be from His heart rather than from our emotions.  We need God to so re-arrange our thought patterns that we don't think about others the way we always have.

There's a scripture that says: "You'll know a tree by its fruit.". And in the spirit realm, we are living trees that people can see.  Whether we know it or not, everytime we open our mouths or do something, we're showing what type of tree we are.  So as we prepare for action, may the Holy Spirit produce in us love, joy, kindness, gentleness, patience, peace, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.  Against such things there is NO law.

Prayer: Father, I heard You clearly today when You spoke saying we needed to be prepared.  Through self-denial, prayer, and walking in Your Spirit, everything I produce must have Your fragrance on it.  More than anything, my acts of obedience that will call attention to Your kingdom must reflect Your character and no-one else's.  I therefore release You to reproduce Yourself in Me,and bring glory to Your Great Name.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Prayers That Prevail

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Today's Passage: Romans 10:5-17
Memory Verse: Rom. 10: 14

Father, thank You for the cycle of Your kingdom.  You send out those who make themselves available to You, and they preach Your Word to the ones who've never received it.  Then the brand new converts fall in love with the Word and keep hearing it until they, too are filled to overflowing and are ready to spread it as well.  This is Your design for filling the earth with the news of Your love in preparation for the return of Your Son.

And yet, I confess that continuing what was deposited in me on a daily basis has not really been my life's goal.  I realize that all those believers who planted seeds of love in my heart by sharing with me what You did for them were filled with a passion to do so.  It wasn't a chore, or a matter of filling a quota, or it would never have made such an impact on my life.

So today, I ask Your Holy Spirit to fill me with that same fire and passion to fulfill Your command to go, preach, publish, and spread the life that will be the only thing that will change our world.  I especially ask for the spirit of selfishness to be broken off my life.  Although I face personal challenges day by day, help me remember to focus on Your Word to seek FIRST Your kingdom and its righteousness.

As I line myself up with the vision for this year that has been laid out by our pastors, fill me with compassion for the lost.  I need to remember that I was once in that same place, ignorant of Who You were and how much I needed You.  Let every action of mine reflect Your mercy and grace towards Your children.  For Your glory and in Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.

The Interpreter

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

Today's Passage: John 16:5-15
Memory verses: Jn 16:13-14

As a teacher, I'm always looking for innovative ways to teach my students concepts in math, reading and other subjects.  Because I struggled with learning math the conventional way, I'm a believer in making learning experiences fun and memorable.  But many individuals, even some who are in a serious relationship with the Lord, doubt whether "fun" and "memorable" can be applied to reading the Bible.

We've all been there: you start reading a passage of scripture, then can't seem to connect or get any meaning out of it.  I guess it's what the disciples felt like when Jesus was trying to explain to them His purpose for coming to the earth.  They were literally going, what is He talking about?  But Jesus didn't get frustrated with them because He knew that in our limited minds, we really can't understand the things of God.  That's why He prompted them to prepare for the coming of the Holy Spirit.

As I thought about the Holy Spirit's purpose, God gave me this awesome revelation.  He's literally like the interpreter of the things of God.  It's like what happens to you when you turn on the Spanish channel: you may be able to grasp one out of every 100 words, but you'd need an interpreter sitting right beside you if you want to understand it all.  And that's what we have to do.

We must daily ask the Holy Spirit to translate to us what belongs to the Father and the Son in a way that we can walk as well as live in the Word for life.  And, we can have fun and memorable experiences while learning about Him.  If you've never asked the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what the Word is saying, ask Him now.  But as you do that, remember this: a good parent starts the child off with milk first, then gradually adds solid food.  It's in this same manner that the Father would have us study His Word.  This year, let the maturity continue with a deeper commitment to the Word.

Prayer: Father, thank You for sending Jesus and the Holy Spirit to live in me.  Holy Spirit, I ask you today to open my understanding.  Show me the Word and reveal it to me in such a way that I can receive it, apply it, and produce good fruit for the kingdom.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Born For Total Devotion

Friday, January 7th, 2010

Today's Passage: Psalm 139:1-18
Memory Verse: Ps. 139: 16

There are some people who believe that birthdays should not be celebrated.  After all, we don't really know what day Jesus our Savior was born.  And if His birth took place in obscurity, why should ours be such a big deal?  But I beg to differ with my brothers and sisters that this is not the reason birthdays are so important.

My mother was forty-two years old when she discovered she was pregnant with me.  I was told later in my life that my father was none too pleased (I was the last of seven children, two of whom were stillborn).  In all those other pregnancies, she had managed to have almost all girls, and he didn't want another.  My middle name, "Darlesu", actually means "I'm done, and want no part of this", which was my dad's attitude at the time.

I'll admit that, with all the uncertainty surrounding my birth, I found it hard to believe that there was a purpose for my being on this earth.  But somewhere deep inside, I held on to hope I didn't know I had.  And that's why this passage gives me so much joy: to find out that before I was even thought of by my biological parents, God had already plotted my entire life's course.  He was so determined that I would make a difference in this world that He literally moved heaven and earth to make it happen.

So today, I praise God for my parents' obedience to go through with the pregnancy that brought me into the world.  But more than anything, I praise Him for knowing exactly what He sent me to this earth to reproduce.  I praise Him for steering me in the direction of my darling husband and giving me beautiful children to make my life colorful and worth living.  I go into every birthday happy to celebrate a life that could've been destroyed before it even began, and look forward to many more risings of the sun that would enable me to accomplish His perfect will.

Prayer: Father, thank You for not only being unsurprised by my birth, but also being aware of every step my life would take way in advance.  You saw every failure and yet counted me worthy to carry Your anointing.  Once again, I offer You this life to do with whatever You choose.  I love You forever, and will spend the rest of my life giving You the devotion I was born for.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

The Greatest Host of All Time

Thursday, January 6th, 2010

Today's Passage: 1 Peter 2: 4-12
Memory Verse: 1 Peter 2: 9

There's a word in our society that's considered more of a household word than many of us would care to admit.  Over the last 20 years, Oprah has made quite a following for herself as people from all walks of life hang on to her every word.    As much as I find it difficult to believe that this lady isn't receiving idol worship (which is another blog), I do find something about her very fascinating.

There are a group of people -- about four hundred, to be exact-- who surround Oprah daily and promote what has now become a multi-million-dollar industry.  They are the producers, assistants and attendants who've spent the same length of time as her talk show career studying her philosophy of life, and learning everything there is to know about her in order to reproduce what she desires to accomplish through her show.  And everyday, they consult with her to give as well as receive input on ideas for the show, aware that only the ideas she approves of will go through.

I watched an episode of the long process that all the crew of Oprah's show have to do in order to present her to her viewers.  It ranged from traveling far or near to make contact with potential guests on the show, to working on gift surprises for the guests which had to be just right and meaningful enough.  Their job responsibilities are also to prepare the guests for their encounter with Oprah before the show.  They go through "hype" sessions, I guess you could call them, in which they're reminded of what a privilege it is to be on the show, as well as when and how often to applaud when the show starts.

Then, when the anticipated moment arrives and she steps onto the scene, every single producer and assistant fades into the background, content to watch her soak up the limelight and praise for all the work that's been done.  Sort of sounds like who we are for the Lord and His kingdom.  We are the producers, attendants and assistants who spend all our lives studying Him and what He wants for the show.  We go out, making Him famous and preparing others to have encounters with Him.  We equip and teach them to worship Him, and then fade into the background when He shows up.  Do we get rewarded for all this?  You bet.  Places, everyone.  The greatest Host of all time awaits.

Prayer: Father, I will never stop thanking You for digging me out of the pit and preparing me for good works in You.  May my life forever reflect Your will.  May I never tire of promoting, publishing, and declaring Your goodness all my days.  I remain totally devoted to Your purpose on this earth.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

H.U.M.P. Day

Wednesday January 5, 2010

I am so excited about this new season we're going into.  It seems like God is revealing Himself more and more as time goes by.  One of the things He's showing us is His call to action.  Each time I pray, I hear His voice clearly say "I need my people to respond to my Word.  I need action".

I'm sure like your kids, my kids enjoy video games.  Do you remember when our biggest concern was their lack of excercise because of their time on the games?  Well, look at them now.  There's Ninetindo Wii, XBox Kinect, and Playstation Move.  What's the common denominator to these gaming systems?  You have to MOVE in order to play them.   There's no more sitting on the couch and only using your thumbs.  These games allow for full-body participation.  That's what I believe God is saying as well.  He wants us to move.  He wants us to go, engage, pursue, run, take, obey, and infiltrate.  That is our HUMP Day challenge Td Nation.  Let's Go!

First Things First

Tuesday, January 4th, 2010

Today's Passage: Luke 10:38-42
Memory Verse: Lk. 10:42

Okay, Friends and Lifers.  We've heard the Word.  It's our marching orders for the new year.  We must spring into ACTION.  Where before we were unmotivated, we must begin to propel ourselves into moving to accomplish God's will on this earth.  Even those of us who can find areas of productivity in our lives realize there's still more to do.  All we have to do is look around and see the harvest fields in our neighborhoods, ripe for the picking.

But even with all that motivation, which actors must have to get into the mindset of their role, what do you do when you just can't find the energy to go?  What happens when you're just too bogged down to spring into action?  How do you handle feeling left behind or not on the same page with the others in the body who seem energized and ready to take on new challenges, while you are the exact opposite?

This is an issue that we avoid discussing, but is extremely important.  In order to get the 80 per cent of our church active and doing something for the kingdom, we must help them face the mountain standing in the way.  It might even be time to address the feeling of burnout among the saints who ARE already giving 100 per cent in ministry.  So what's the solution?  It's one word: PRIORITIES.

If we take a minute to sort things out in our minds, we'll find that the first thing we have to do is shift some of our activities.  Multi-tasking might sound like a good idea, but to be honest, it's really the enemy's way to keep us so pre-occupied that we don't feel we have the time or energy to do what's important.  Then we end up getting even more bogged down with guilt because we didn't do those things, and before you know it, another year has gone by.  Let's make a commitment this year to spend the first part of our day with the Father.  Let HIM help us set new priorities.  I'm learning that, just like tithing, when we give Him first place with our time, He'll turn that mountain back into the molehill it really is.

Prayer: Father, I need You in this area of my life.  I need to set new priorities so that my focus is on what You would have me doing rather than what I think I should be doing.  Please help me slow down so that I can hear from You.  You're the greatest ORGANIZER there is.  You're the One Who knew what needed to be created first.  I seek You today for the answer to every problem, and I give You praise for helping me produce for Your kingdom in greater and more meaningful measure this year.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

"Purpose: The Movie"

Today's Passage: Rom. 8:28-30
Memory Verse: Same

It never ceases to amaze me how fast time flies.  One minute, you're walking down the aisle, and the next your kids are about as tall as you.  The most unpredictable thing about time is that it ushers us into seasons of what our human minds consider "good" or "bad".  Yet, every event has been orchestrated by our Father to propel us into our purpose.

In yesterday's service, our pastors really brought home the point that God put everything in place before time even began just like a movie set is prepared for the actors.  The lighting was made just right (salvation and redemption), and the camera has been positioned.  The Producer Himself has given us our lines to study (the Bible).  But what we've got to understand is that our actions--what we choose to do with our time, talent and status in life -- will be recorded for all eternity.

As believers, we must not be ignorant of times and seasons.  Every single thing that happens in our lives-- has a purpose.  Each event prepares us for another; it helps us grow stronger and more ready to be of use to the Father's kingdom.  All things really do work together for the good of those of us who love the Lord.  But how?  When we accept the call to His purpose.

Imagine how useless it would be for Steven Spielberg, one of the greatest producers of all time, to prepare the set with lighting, props, and the script for a famous actor to take his or her place.  But instead, they used the filming time to give excuses for why they can't do the movie.  How many wasted moments do we have on our film?  How many excuses have we given our Producer?  This year, may that not be said of us.  Let's walk out our movie with God's grace.

Prayer: Father, thank You for preparing everything I need for my successful role in Your movie.  Your set is this wonderful creation; the lighting is perfect because You saved me and gave me the Light of the world Himself to dwell in me.  Let my actions reflect Your purpose for my life-- just the way You designed it.  No more excuses... Only obedience.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Prayers That Prevail

Sunday January 2, 2011

Father, I am overcome with thanksgiving.  As I look back over the past year, I can see all the ways You made for me.  I can see Your hand in every season I walked through.  So, I thank You for all You've done.  Thank You for life and strength.  Thank You for protection and favor.  And thank You for love and grace.

Now that I have new life in You, my life will change.  Whereas my life's ambition was to acquire all I could for myself, it is now total devotion to You.  My praise will be Yours at all times.  My worship to You will be evident in my character and my lifestyle.  In other words, I'll seek You ONLY, and let You add to me what You want me to have.

In this new season, I will give the enemy no place in my life.  Through You Lord, I'll seek to infiltrate the dark places and establish Your kingdom.  I bind the enemy's advancements by the blood of Your Son, Jesus.  He will not be able to have access to me, my family, or my friends any longer.  My mind, heart, and will forever belongs to You, God.  The enemy will not be able to use relationships, money, or sickness to turn me away from You again.  I've fallen for those tricks before, but I never will again.  Also, I'll not use my walk to play the role of the 'wounded warrior'.  Victory is my claim.  As long as I keep my eyes on You, Lord, I don't have to be afraid of the enemy.  Afterall, if You be for me, who can be against me?  I win, because You win.

Finally Lord, receive my praise today.  Be enthroned upon my worship.  I dedicate this day to You.  Let all I say and do glorify You.  I prepare my heart for Your holy Word.  So let it change me as I apply it with fidelity.  Rest in me as I show my love to You forever, in Jesus' name. Amen

Choices, Choices

Today's Passage: Psalm 90
Memory Verse: Ps. 90:12

Good morning, lifers and TD nation.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!  We're on the other side of a new season, and I'm so grateful!  Today, those of us who've made it into the new year are praising God for the privilege of being alive.  I realize the importance of having the right attitude to have good results, but there ARE no results without right choices.

So rather than just focusing on resolutions, I want to spend our time together asking for the wisdom to make these CHOICES this new year:

1. I pray for God's strength to arise early so I can hear His voice speaking and revealing to me the secrets of His heart, and so I can receive preparation for my day.

2. I pray for the wisdom to remember that I am God's minister and ambassador 24 hours a day,  7 days a week, 4 weeks a month, and 12 months a year.  Wherever I am, that is the pulpit I've been given.  May I always represent my Father well.

3. I pray for God's peace to so fill me that every storm I encounter will eventually bow down and be still... No matter how long it takes.

4.  I pray for the love of God to be the banner over me-- the one that makes me always patient, kind, not envious, not easily provoked, not puffed up in pride, never rude, and always hopeful.

5.  Finally, I pray for the grace to seize the God- moments that await me rather than procrastinate, foolishly thinking anything else may be more important at that moment.

My prayer today is that God would teach us all to number our days, so that we would always be able to walk in wisdom.  One wise choice at a time, may we all produce what God gives us to accomplish on this earth.  And may we live to see Him fulfill every heart's desire as we delight ourselves in Him.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.
