Guilty!!!

Today's Passage: Matthew 26:57-63

Memory Verse: Same

Thursday April 1, 2010

Blessings Friends & Lifers! As we get closer to the observance of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, I grow more and more sensitive to what Christ went through on that faithful weekend. Let me ask you something. What is the defense for something you're guilty of?

Jesus was arrested and brought before the Sanhedrin where several people testified falsely against Him. Later, Caiaphas, the high priest (I know right?), asked Jesus if He was the Christ. Jesus simply answered "It is as you said". They then began to beat and mock Him as they pronounced Him to be killed. Wow! If you were being accused of something you didn't do this defense would be easy. If were being called someone you weren't, you'd have no problem speaking up for yourself. But when's the last time someone accused you of being a christian.....and you were guilty? If so, what was the evidence that led to your conviction? Was it you who loved the widow? Was it you who blessed the children? Who prays every morning for the expansion of the kingdom of God? You? Who gives their time to service to the ministry and community? You? If you were on trial (like Jesus) for living righteously, would you be found guilty?

God places us in particular situations for a purpose. He puts us in the midst of our unsaved friends and family members for a reason. The reason is He wants us to be salt and light. He wants us to be the example of love and holiness He intended "them" to be. But when they charge us with being a christian, or a "goody 2-shoes", or a person who thinks they're all that, we give in to the pressure with statements like "nah man, I'm just like you". Then we proceed to talk like they talk and do what they do to appease them. God says we were on trial for being christians and pleaded NOT guilty. You know it's true. In fact, Peter, one of Jesus' disciples was the first to do it.

Our challenge today is to do a better job of standing up, and standing out. Jesus wasn't afraid to be who He was. My eyes fill with tears when I think of how He wasn't too embarrased or scared to keep it real for me in the face of His adversaries. I would've deserved His turning away from me. But He stayed. He stayed to say I'm guilty of being love, being hope, and being light. So find a way to show your faith. And when the doubters come in with their persecution, let them know how much you'll always love Jesus. Trust me, they like that kinda stuff!!!

Prayer:
Thank You Jesus for saving me. Without Your blood, I would not have a right to be free from my sin. I believe You died for me, and was resurrected by God. Therefore, You are my Savior and the source of my life. I will praise Your name forever....Amen!

H.U.M.P. Day!!!

Wednesday March 31, 2010

Blessings, Friends & Lifers! As we observe this Resurrection Sunday version of H.U.M.P. (His Ultimate Mission & Purpose) Day, let us be reminded of the fact that we live (have covenant w/God) because Jesus lives (conquered the grave). Jesus took away the sting of death; giving us the privilege of eternal life with God (1 Cor. 15:55-57)

We must understand that death is NOT the image you get of the cold, breathless corpse. That, my friends, is simply a "transition". It is the inevitable journey from natural to spiritual, temporal to eternal, and corruptible to incorruptible. We will all have to take that journey one day. However, the true definition (or description if you will) of death is "eternal seperation from God". That's a journey you don't have to take. So I leave you with 2 questions today: (1) Do you want to die? and....(2) Are you dead already?

Your mission is to share the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ with someone who may not know Him...

The Passover Lamb

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Today's Passage:Exodus 12:1-13
Memory Verses: Ex. 12:13; Ps.91:7-8

Today marks the Jewish celebration of the Passover, during which the children of Israel saw God's mighty hand deliver them from the bondage of Egypt. His instructions to them were to sacrifice a lamb without blemish, to be used for covering the doorposts of every household that the lamb represented. In this way, when the death angel visited Egypt, he would "pass over" their houses and only strike the houses of the Egyptians.

It was extremely important for the Israelites to follow God's instructions to the letter, especially the one about the lamb being spotless. It had to be the purest possible lamb that each household could find. In order to be protected from the plague that would wipe out the firstborn of the Egyptians, God would accept only the best sacrifice from His people.

Isn't it just like our God to supercede Himself by providing another opportunity, years later, for not only a nation, but an entire world, to be set free from the oppression of the enemy? In order to have the death angel "pass over" us, all we have to do is receive the Spotless Lamb, unblemished by the sin that runs in our blood, into our hearts. He has already been approved by the God of the Universe, Who loved us enough to give up His only Son so we can legally walk out of satan's grasp.

If you've already given your life to Christ, this is your reminder to celebrate the awesomeness of our deliverance through Him, our Spotless Passover Lamb. But if you're reading this, and you've never understood what all the fuss was about some prophet being killed 2,000 years ago, here's the answer to that question. What did we gain? The blood that was shed on the cross doesn't get plastered on a physical door; this time, it's a transfusion that replaces the sin-contaminated blood given to us by our ancestors, Adam and Eve. And because of that blood, we are now heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ Himself.

Everytime God sees that blood inside of us, He has the legal right to shield us from the plagues afflicted by the enemy's angels of destruction. Today, if you don't know this Christ, ask Him to come and live inside your heart today. But if you do, please don't spend another moment burdened down with sadness and pain that He already paid for with His precious blood. Walk in the freedom that is freely given to you. Just as the Pharaoh of Egypt had to let the children of Israel go, satan has to take his hands off of you and everything that's yours. All because of Jesus, our very own Passover Lamb.

Prayer: Father, I can only live out the rest of my days in service and gratitude to You for giving me Your very best. Thank You for thinking of me when He was on the cross. May my life be a fraction of the sacrifice to You that He was for me. I love You forever. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Resurrection Week!!!

Today's Passage: Matthew 10:5-8

Memory Verse: Matthew 26:14-16

Monday March 29, 2010

Blessings Friends & Lifers! As you know, this is the week we begin to focus our attention on the crucifixion and resurrection of our Savior. We'll discuss certain aspects of that time in our devotions this week.

We arise today knowing that we are disciples of Jesus Christ. We are His followers. We are the people who took up our crosses to follow Him. Do you remember where you were when He found you? Do you remember what you were doing? If you were like Matthew, He found you while you were cheating, stealing, or being unfair to someone. If you were like Peter or Andrew, He found you wasting away at work; with no real purpose or destiny. Some of us He found in adultery, and some in other sins or trangressions. But the end result is the same. You are a disciple. Which means in one meeting, He changed our lives forever and we now desire to live for Him.

Now I have a question for you. Of the original disciples, which one are you most like? Is it John? Peter? James? Matthew? Or Judas? Would you believe we often start our day wanting to be like John, but by the end of the day we become like Judas? How so? Let's go to the word. Matthew 10:5-8 reveals one of Jesus' first commands to the disciples. He said not to go in the way of the gentiles (world), not to go in the city of the samaritans (unbeliever), but go after the lost of Israel. He said preach saying "the kingdom of heaven is at hand", heal the lepers (sick), raise the dead, and cast out demons. Whew! What a day...! There's hardly any time for me and what I want. When are we going to shop, eat, or watch Sportscenter? What about what "I" need? See, living the life of a disciple is not easy. That's why starting the day like "John" and finishing like "Judas" is a common occurrence. When Jesus wouldn't be what Judas wanted Him to be, he had to make a choice. Instead of waiting and following, Judas chose to replace Jesus with instant gratification (Matt 26:14-16). So I ask again, which disciple do you resemble most?

I challenge you today to stay focused. Don't let thoughts of "self" overtake you. Don't allow them to get you off the path of discipleship. John was the disciple who was after Jesus' heart and you should be too. Anytime we misinterpret Jesus' place in our lives we set ourselves up to betray him for a temporary reward that's only going to lead to our destruction. Jesus is our Savior and our Lord. We owe it to Him to stay faithful!!!

Prayer:
Today Lord I become aware of who I am in comparison to who You are. I realize I must follow you in every aspect of my life. I will keep my mind on You and the plans You have for me. Forgive me for times I've allowed myself to be distracted by my own desires. I'm Yours forever and ever, in Jesus' Name...Amen!

Why Do You Praise Him?

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Today's Passage:Matthew 21:1-11
Memory Verses: Psalm 100:4-5

You probably know the story well. One week before Jesus was crucified, He made history in Jerusalem. He entered the city in much the same way as a king did in that day who had just returned from defeating and conquering the lands of his enemies. Finally, after more than three years of doing his earthly ministry in almost a secret manner, He decides to reveal Himself as who He really was: the King of all kings.

And the people ate it up. They received Him like the king He professed to be, lining the streets with palm branches and even the clothes off their backs. They shouted at the top of their lungs: "Hosanna! Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord!"...As often as I've read this story, I've always wondered why it was so easy for those same ones who paid honor to our Lord to turn their backs on Him in the matter of a few short days.

Then I noticed a line in that passage that had escaped me before. It said the city was moved, and wondered, "Who is this?" (v. 10). This gave me a new perspective on the mindset of the people who were adoring Jesus that day. Most of them didn't have a clue who He was. They simply happened to be in an exciting place on an ordinary day. As a result of this, when the Jews realized that He wasn't going to march up to the governors and demand to be politically recognized as a Jewish king, they demanded that He be put to death. And so, the ones who just went along with the praise without even knowing Him must have been the very ones who went along with the condemnation. After all, to them, He was just another Jew who never did anything special for them.

Which brings me to my question: why do YOU praise Him? When the praise team asks everyone to lift their hands and worship, or shout unto God with a voice of triumph, do you do it just to go along? Or do you see a series of images flashing through your mind's eye of all the times He's brought you out, lifted you out of the traps the enemy is constantly setting for you, and reassured you of His presence in the midst of trouble?

This morning, as you get ready to go into the service, don't wait until the praise team invites you to praise our Lord. Enter His gates with thanksgiving on your lips. Thank Him for everything -- especially for the price He paid for saving you. And if you're going through an especially trying season in your life, let your praise, combined with the praise of your sisters and brothers in Christ, transport you into His presence to be filled and healed. For the Lord is good, and His mercy endures forever. From this day forward, may you never just be a bystander again.

Prayer: Father, I am so very grateful for the extreme measures you took to set me free. Today and everyday, let my praise be as abounding and freely flowing as Your love, mercy and grace towards me. I love You now and always, and will worship Your Son forever. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

It's In The Garden

Today's Passage:Genesis 2:8-10

Memory Verse:John 19:41-42

Saturday March 27, 2010

Blessings, Friends and Lifers! I pray you're on the verge of a restful weekend that culminates with high praise to God on Sunday. Anyway, do any of you have a garden? Do you have a "green thumb"? My answer to those questions are no and no. But lately I've been on a spiritual quest to break down the significance of a garden.

First, the origin of any garden is "purpose". If one wanted a garden, what would be the reason? Would you use it to beautify your lawn, or feed your family, or to bring income to your household? If you try to plant a garden without a purpose you won't have the commitment and dedication it takes to see it through to harvest time. Secondly, a garden has to be in a good "position". Planting a garden in a place where there's not enough sun or shade can be detrimental to its health. Then you have to have good "ground/soil". Without this, you don't have anything. You'll be putting seed into a ground that won't yield anything. The soil you use has to be soft and ready to recieve seed for growing.

God used a garden in two significant areas of the bible. In the beginning, he put Adam & Eve in a garden. Genesis 2 said God's garden was in Eden. In that garden, He made every tree to grow that was pleasant to the sight and good for food. He also put a river in the middle that parted into four riverheads. The whole purpose for this garden was to provide nourishment for Adam and a place of visitation for Him. But Adam & Eve disobeyed God in that garden. Sin was introduced, and they both had to endure being separated from God. Now flash forward to John 19:41. It says, "Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no-one had been laid. So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews' Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby".

I love the way God finds a way to put things back the way He intended. His intent was to have God and man together in the beauty of a garden. After the devil used Adam and Eve to mess up the plan, God restored His plan with Jesus (the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world.
Our challenge today is to recognize that, because of what Jesus did, we are now God's individual gardens, planted with the purpose of being used produce after our own kind for His kingdom. When you feel the pruning hand of the Master Gardener, which may sometimes be a painful process, embrace it and count it all joy. Know that the beautiful fruit that is produced through you will bless and provide nourishment for others for generations to come.

Prayer: Father, I yield myself to Your workmanship today. You make ALL things beautiful in their time, so I have no doubt that You have found a way to take the messy, twisted vines my life used to be and turn them into the breathtaking, organized and useful fruit that people will see and enjoy. I love You and live to ever bring You glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

No Strings Attached!

Today's Passage: Proverbs 9:1-6;10-18
Memory Verse: John 10:10

On any given day, you can find hundreds of offers in your inbox on the website that provides you free e-mail access. "You have been chosen to receive $100." Or, "You have won $1,000 from this or that store." All you need to do is type in your e-mail address or your zip code. Lured by the word we all like to hear, "free", you timidly send a signal to the computer through a click of your mouse that lets them know you have accepted their offer.

Then, like a bird that's been baited into a trap, you find that you've just been re-routed to a whole new page that asks for more personal information, and most of all, a commitment to give them permission to deduct money from your credit card. The entire time, that trap had been set for you, although you hoped it would be different than the last ten times this happened to you.

Our Christian walk is very similar to this scenario. Outside of Christ, everything that's offered to us is packaged in shiny wrapping paper, attempting to lure us into a situation that would ultimately lead to destruction in some area of our lives. Even though our minds know this, sometimes it seems as if we just have to give in to the "click" of the button of whatever the temptation is.

In times of hardship in our lives, it's extremely important for us to guard our hearts so as not to open ourselves up to being lured by the enemy. For example, if you're feeling lonely or unloved, that is not the time to be alone in a potentially compromising position with a person who is not your spouse. Another example of this is when your finances are tight. If you're already having financial problems, why would you give in to accepting a loan? This is obviously another trap set by the enemy to ensure you never become financially free.

The challenge we face daily is walking under the umbrella and in the counsel of the All-Wise God. He loves us unconditionally, and places demands on us that are only for our good. I pray that today you will find it in your heart to hear His Voice alone, for only there will you be safe from the enemy's traps -- no strings attached.

Prayer: Father, I can't thank You enough that You saved me from the enemy's snare. I will hear You daily, watching at the posts of Your Spirit of Wisdom. The voice of the stranger I will never follow again. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Another Level!!!

Today's Passage: Luke 19:1-4

Memory Verse: Luke 19:5

Thursday March 25, 2010

Blessings Friends & Lifers! I start today's devotional by telling you I have good news and not-so-good news. Which one do you want to hear first? Okay I can't hear you through your computer/cell phone, so I'll just choose for you. The good news is God has so much more for you. The not-so-good news is you can't stay where you are to get it. You have to go to another level.

Remember Zacchaeus? I really like this guy. Zacchaeus was a local tax collector who the bible described as rich. This point is important because he was at a place in his life where most christians would become settled and complacent. But even with his wealth and all the respect that came with it, Zacchaeus realized there was something missing. Not even his lavish lifestyle could fill the void in is heart. There was more, and Zacchaeus knew it. Are you REALLY satisfied with where you are? Do you REALLY think this is it? Have you prayed & fasted enough, praised & worshipped enough, or read & studied enough? Can you say you've had enough of His presence, His love, and His peace? If the answer to any of those questions is no, I challenge you to find your next level.

Zacchaeus looked over his life and suddenly realized he wasn't missing a "what", he was missing a "who"...Jesus. He didn't squander the opportunity to meet Him either as he ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a tree to see Him. My Friends, if you desire to have "more" in your life, you can't be caught in the crowd. You have to stand out. You have to take your passion for His presence to another level. Zacchaeus used a tree to get to his new level. What will you use? Don't know? I'll help you find out. All you have to do is confront the thing that keeps you from a personal encounter with God then find something to help you rise above it. For Zacchaeus that "thing" was his height (the Bible said he was short). Yours may be fear, so do something bold or courageous. Or it may be pride, so lay aside something that brings glory to you instead of Jesus. No matter what it is you can overcome it. And when you do, Jesus will come into your (spiritual) house like He came to Zacchaeus'. You'll then have all the "more" you can handle.

Prayer:
Father I need more of You. I want more of Your spirit, character, and love. Possess me today. I refuse to stay at this level any longer. I'm committed to pursuing You to whereever You are. Where You go, I'll go. What You say, I'll say. What You pray, I'll pray. I desire to be in Your presence everyday I live. In Jesus' Name....Amen!

H.U.M.P. Day!!!

Wednesday March 24, 2010

Blessings Friends & Lifers! I pray God is keeping you in His care and favor. It's wonderful to realize He already has thoughts and plans for us. People who do not yet know this have to "make" a life for themselves. As we all know, that path is laden with one mistake after another. Can you imagine being dropped into the center of a labyrinth and told you have to find your OWN way out? Well, we've all been there. Life itself is like a labyrinth in that it's often hard to know whether to go forward or backward, left or right. But a life submitted to God has a plan. It has a map that is specific about the course or direction that leads to freedom. Thank God for ordered steps!

Your mission for this H.U.M.P. Day, if you choose to accept it, is search and recovery. There are people stuck in the middle of the labyrinth with nowhere to turn. Like a national park ranger, or person in the coast guard, you are to listen for spiritual/emotional S.O.S. calls, search for them and bring them out. It may be a friend, co-worker, family member, or neighbor. It may even be YOURSELF!!! Search your own heart and if any part of it is lost, cry out for the Savior. Have a great H.U.M.P. Day!!!

What Kind of Soil?

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Today's Passage: Matthew 13:3-23
Memory Verses: Mt. 13:11-12

Have you ever tried to have a conversation with someone about spiritual things, and found that it was as if you were talking to each other in two different languages? With all your heart, you try to make them understand the things of God that you've learned. But rather than receiving, they only use it as an opportunity to debate religious doctrine. Or they might only use your words against you in an effort to prove how much "holier than thou" you are.

I often wondered how this could be possible, especially if you and that person hear the same Word week after week. Then I read this passage and began to understand the spirit with which Jesus spoke this word. Now, before you're tempted to take offense, understand that Jesus was explaining this very same phenomenon about people who were present and heard Him preach. These may be hard words for some to hear, but in these last days, it's important that we ask them out loud.

Why is it that, over a period of time, there are some people in our churches who never seem to grow any deeper in the Word than a shrub? On the other hand, why are there others who seem to flourish like an oak tree within a short period of receiving the Word? Is there some secret side to God that favors certain ones for certain reasons? Is it really true that some people are destined to get everything God says they can have, while others never will no matter how they try?

I firmly believe, and know this from experience, that the only person who can support or destroy our own growth in the Word is OURSELVES. Now, as we respond to God's promises and show that we want more of Him, He responds with more. Why else would Jesus tell His disciples, "Whoever has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever doesn't have, even that which he has will be taken away"? So God IS watching to see who really wants to grow.

So, here's one more hard question. What kind of soil do YOU have? I can track my own spiritual progress almost to the day and date. I received Christ as my Saviour in 1991. But for many years, because I had no real intention of applying the Word to my life, I suffered many unnecessary trials as a result of making decisions apart from God. But around 2002, when I finally agreed to let His Word have the final say in my life, I began to see more fruit, and God began to trust me with more of His anointing. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.

Prayer: Father, Your Word is a treasure that brings my life its value. Thank You for Your Promise that if I hunger and thirst after it, I shall be rewarded with more. I come into agreement that I shall not only continue to be good soil, but I will also produce one hundred fold for the advancement of Your kingdom. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

I WILL Rejoice!

Monday, March 22, 2010

Today's Passage: Psalm 118:15-24
Memory Verses:Ps. 118:15,24

Alarm goes off. Sluggish feet hit the floor. Face and teeth are cleaned. For me, it takes a few minutes of a luxurius hot shower before I truly feel awake enough to tackle the day. But somewhere between there and getting the kids into the car and to school, something attempts to sap me of my energy. Thoughts of to-do lists that are already too long, or failed resolutions to eat right and take better care of myself, my family, and my home cloud my mind and take my focus way off of the promises of God.

Then a small voice that I almost miss reminds me that the Creator of All simply wants a little of my time, and as I bring myself into submission to His Will that says to seek Him first, I find everything added to me that I was looking for to begin with. God reminds me that, no matter what I don't have, there are plenty of spiritual blessings flowing. How does this help me have a victorious day, you ask? His Word tells me that the voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of those who are righteous. And why is it so important to be filled with joy? Because where joy is, there is strength to praise God. And where praise is, the presence of God with all of the benefits (peace, power, and prosperity in all we do)is close behind.

So this morning, as my day begins, I purpose in my heart to seek Him BEFORE my alarm and sluggish feet have a chance to throw me off course again...

Prayer: God, You are my God. Early will I seek You. Praise waits for You. Because You have been my help, I will always bless You. I will rejoice in the shadow of Your wings, and there will find strength to be everything You're calling me to be today (Ps. 63). In Jesus' Name, Amen!

"It's a Bird, It's a Plane....."

Today's Passage: Psalm 61:3-5

Memory Verse: 2 Samuel 22:1-3

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Blessings, Friends & Lifers! As you get ready for church this morning (if that's when you're reading this) I want you to get excited about who you're going to honor today....Jesus. Think of Him as your Hero. Well, He is, isn't He? So many times people have let you down or been insensitive to you. But Jesus never has. So when you get to church today, let yourself fall in love with Him all over again.

Do you remember the Superman movies with Christopher Reeves? He loved Lois Lane, didn't he? One night, he decided to take her for a flight. Trusting him, she took his hand and off they went. While flying at those high altitudes, she knew he'd never let her fall. She was so confident as a matter of fact, she tried flying at the end of his arm instead of in his arm. Oops! She immediately started to fall; instantly realizing the further away from him she was, the less ability she had to fly. It's the same with us. The further away from our "Hero" we get, the less we possess the ability to fly over our sin and failure.

So let this day be about Him. Let your thoughts be about Him. Try not to get distracted or discouraged today. If you open your heart and truly praise and worship Him, He'll leap over the tall buildings of your life with a single bound. He'll show up when you need Him most and vanquish your enemies. He's here to save us. He'll keep us in His care. And guess what, He'll even let you wear His armor, yeah...His supersuit!!! So don't be afraid of the enemy. He has no power over you. The only authority he has over you is the authority you give him. So don't give him any. Stand on the promise that when the enemy comes in like a flood, He'll lift up a standard (block) against him. He'll never let you down, like the true Hero you can depend on.

Prayer:
What an awesome God You are. You've never left me alone. Thank You God for always being there for me. I remember reading when You saved David from the lion and the bear. Then You saved Him from the giant Goliath. When the Goliath of my life came, You were right there for me. I am so grateful. You're my Strong Tower and Deliverer. In Jesus' name....Amen!

Winning Feels Good!!!

Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 33:29

Memory Verse: Romans 8:31

Saturday March 20, 2010

Hello, Friends & Lifers! Today's devotional is a shout out to the champion in you. It's a clarion call to the winners in Christ. It seems we've always had to finish last. We've always had to put our hopes and dreams on the back burner for other things and other people. We carry the scars of those hurts with us everyday. Our broken paths seem to be filled with disappointment and rejection at every turn. But thanks be to God who always causes us to triumph in His name.

I want you to understand that no matter what you've been through, God's been with you. You've always been above, never beneath. The very fact that you've been rejected by the world signifies you've been chosen by God. He wants you. He's sanctified you and put His anointing on you. The enemy of your life has been defeated because death couldn't hold Jesus down. So shout unto God with a voice of triumph and praise. C'mon, you can do it! Most of us spend our time thinking about all the things that come against us. We worry about the economy being against us. We worry about the infirmity being against us. But if "God" is for us, who can be against us? What am I saying? I'm saying with God, the outcome is....YOU WIN!!!

Now the challenge today is to stay on God's side. As you realize He has chosen you, you must now choose Him. If you make decisions that lead you away from God's covering; you instantly place yourself in harm's way. You literally submit yourself to the law of sin and death, where there is no defense. But Deuteronomy 33:29 says "Happy are you O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the Shield of your help and the Sword of your majesty. Your enemies will submit to you, and you will tread down their high places"! Wooo! Anybody but me feel a shout of praise in their spirit? There's truly a champion in you. That champion is the Holy Spirit. He'll win for you. He'll keep the devil from bullying you. You are no longer a victim. You're a victor. Go ahead, speak that over yourself. Speak it over the issues of your body, marriage, children, and finances. Ministering spirits are waiting to carry out your spiritual command. So assign them already. Do this and you'll understand what I'm saying when I say "winning feels good".....!

Prayer:
Praise You God! Praise You for Your faithfullness. Praise You for Your favor towards me. You are my Strength and my Song, the Lifter of my head. I am victorious in You and only You. You are so awesome!!!!

A Place of Peace

Friday, March 20th, 2010

Today's Passage: Psalm 46
Memory Verse: Ps. 46:1-2

I heard a story of a group of artists who were once asked to paint their best interpretation of peace. Most of these artists depicted serenely beautiful sceneries of birds flying, or calm waters, or even the sun setting on the horizon. But one artist in particular did the opposite. He painted a storm in its roughest moment, with the winds blowing away everything in sight -- except for this bird, which was nestled safely in the cleft of a rock, hidden from the violence and completely unmoved. When asked why he chose this image to depict peace, the artist said something to this effect: "Peace is not peace until it's tested."

Looking around us today, there's quite a bit of violence all around us. The enemy is waging war against us in all its forms. But there's something about being in a raging storm, all hell breaking loose around you, and not one ounce of fear arising. In this passage, the writers declare that God is our "refuge" and "strength"; two words that indicate a need to escape extreme turmoil. I personally have experienced a feeling of helplessness while bombs were being dropped around me during the civil war in my country, Liberia. But because my parents had taught us to turn to God, I was able to literally retreat into that place of refuge, finding peace in a violent time just like that bird.

Today, I speak and declare peace to any and everyone who may be experiencing war in any of its forms. It could be a traumatic situation that happened long ago that the enemy is still using to keep you from moving forward. Or it may be something that happened recently, or is happening in your life right now. I declare over you that your God, Jehovah Shalom, is a Very Present Help and a refuge for You. Therefore, you will not fear, even though your world is shaken and moved into the middle of the sea. May God's peace surround you, filling and making you stable as God brings the healing. Today and everyday henceforth, may God provide for you a place of peace.

Prayer: Father, I pray for my brothers and sisters all over the world today who are going through situations only You can deliver them from. I declare that, even in the most heartbreaking and trying circumstances, You will be their refuge and strength, a Very Present Help in trouble. Thank You for being that for me time and time again. I will always find my place of peace in You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

It Ain't Over Til It's Over!!!!

Today's Passage: 2 Kings 4:8-37

Memory Verse: Isaiah 40:31

Thursday March 18, 2010

Hello Friends & Lifers! Did you see that college basketball game the other night? Okay, I get it. I'm the sports fan on this blog. Anyway, the visiting team dominated the game from the opening tip-off. They out-rebounded the home team, made more shots, and committed less turnovers. It had gotten so bad, the home fans started to leave the arena with about five minutes left in the game. At the 4:38 mark, the home team got a spark via a steal that went back for a score. That was followed by a foul on the visiting team who was ahead by 14 points at the time. Well to make a long story short, the home team won the game by making a 3pt shot at the final second. Why am I sharing this with you? I'm glad you ask. During the post-game interview, the reporter asked the player what his motivation was for hitting the game winning shot. He said: "Our team had a promise. Coach promised our team a victory if we gave it everything we had. So even when we were down, we kept telling ourselves it ain't over til it's over, give it all you got". Wow!

We all live by the promises of God. He's never gone back on His word nor has He failed us. Sometimes in life, we feel we've fallen so far behind the fulfillment of that promise because of age, finances, health, or education. But God hasn't forgotten us. When He's involved, it ain't over til it's over. I'm reminded of the Shunemite woman who made room for the prophet Elisha in her home. For she and her husband's faithfullness, God promised them a child who later fell ill and died. The woman's distress made her feel hopeless, as if the Lord was no longer with her. But when is He NOT with us? Didn't He say in His word He'd be with us always, even until the end of the world? After hearing of the tragedy, Elisha immediately returned to the couple's home where God used him to bring the child back to life.

My Friends, no matter how dire your situation may seem, keep believing. Even if everything in you says it's over, keep fighting. Keep doing what God told you to do. Keep speaking life over what God promised you. He's still in control. If that basketball team had trusted their natural eyes, the scoreboard would have told them to quit. The smiles on the faces of the other team would have told them it's time to give in. And if the woman had trusted what she saw, she would have buried her promise without a glimmer of hope. But they that wait on the Lord (and not what they see) will get renewed strength. So trust him. He's got your back. Always remember you're not alone. And no matter what the situation looks like, it ain't over 'til it's over!!!!

Prayer:
Keep me in Your care Lord as I continue on this journey. My focus will always be on what you've promised, not on what things seem to be. My faith is completely in You. And I will not be moved. In Jesus' Name...Amen!

A Time of Peace

Today's Passage: Isaiah 54:7-17
Memory Verses: Is. 54:10; 17

Have you ever been through a season when you thought all of heaven and earth was lined up against you? I sure have. Every believer has to endure a period of extreme hardship which fulfills two purposes. One is the enemy's way of terrorizing us into going back to our old lifestyle. The other is God's way of ensuring that we become tougher and more capable of handling trials, growing in maturity and perseverance through it all.

This passage opens up to us how God feels about what He's allowed us to walk through. It's sort of like when parents have to take their child to get vaccinations. They know it's the best thing for that child, but it breaks their heart to see him or her suffer so. God tells us that He had to hide His face from us for a short moment, exactly as He had to do when His Son was hanging on the cross with all that ugly sin upon Him.

But now that this hard season is over, you and I can take comfort in the Father's promise that His kindness will never depart from us. I can almost see Him hovering over us, soothing and singing peace over us after the storm. We have the Sovereign One's assurance that our foundation will be laid with precious stones (so we can walk in victory at all times). He's established a peaceful season for our children (wouldn't it be awesome to see our children go through life untouched by the heartbreaking situations we had to endure?)

Today, I come into agreement with you as saints of the Most High God that we are entering our season of peace. It's a season when the enemy is powerless to launch his weapons into your life. Believe me: they're lined up against us, but their assignments are canceled in the Name of Jehovah Shalom. He is also Jehovah Nissi, Whose banner over us is love. We can claim this promise that whoever assembles against us will fall. This is our heritage as His servants. Walk in your season of peace today and everyday.

Prayer: Father, I'm so grateful that You've been there for me through rough seasons. What the enemy meant for evil against me, You've worked for my good. Now, I accept Your promise of peace not only for myself, but for my children as well. I rest in the thought that the enemy is no match for You and Your ministering spirits, who will keep charge concerning me. I walk in this season of peace in Jesus' Precious Name...Amen.

The Good Life

Monday, March 15, 2010

Today's Passage: Psalm 34:11-14
Memory Verse: Ps. 34:14

If you were to ask almost anyone you know what he or she considered "the good life", that person would most likely describe a life of physical comfort and ease. It probably would involve not having to worry about overdue bills, or dealing with health issues as many of us have to do. Whatever your description of the good life is, here's a formula from God's Word that's certain to provide it.

Before you start to leap for joy, however, there's something you must first consider. For every promise from God's Word, there is a condition that needs to be fulfilled. So what's our task here? In this passage, God is requiring us to "seek peace and pursue it" (verse 14). If we desire this good life, in which we are promised many days, we must eliminate strife from our hearts. Pastors Chad and Nette ministered yesterday that we must do everything we can to keep peace. Why is peace in our lives so important to God?

Walking in peace is tied to everything we are, and all we hope to be. It operates as the lifeblood within us that circulates throughout our bodies. If contaminated with thoughts of anger and evil speaking, our whole body is affected. Our immune system ceases to work properly, and everything in us goes into shutdown mode. Before long, we become nothing more than zombies -- merely waiting to die rather than alive. An existence like this resembles nothing like the life of joy and spiritual wellbeing that God promises us.

Does this mean we have to sacrifice our self-respect just so we can have this peace? What will people think of us if we're always walking away from conflict and never confronting it? To answer this, I ask another question: Whose opinion of us matters more -- man's, or God's? In any case, Jesus calls us "blessed" and "sons of God" if we are peacemakers. This means that, at any cost, we must be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become offended. Is it going to be easy? No, not at all. But remember the reward: THE GOOD LIFE.

Prayer: Father, today I want to thank You for making available to me every good thing my heart could ever desire. I'm also grateful that, like a good dad, You require me to do my part in order to walk in it. I purpose in my heart to seek and pursue peace so that, when people see me, they'll see your character in me. Live BIG in me today, Holy Spirit. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Like A Glove!!!

Today's Passage: John 14:26

Memory Verse: Acts 1:4-6

Sunday March 14, 2010

Blessings, Friends & Lifers! Have you ever felt empty? Ever spent days feeling like you're only a shell of your former self? This seems to be a reccurring theme among the Body of Christ lately. People go from day to day and week to week doing the same things over and over again. Before long, they're depleted of the life and energy it takes to be productive. If this describes you, don't be discouraged. There's a solution for this issue. The solution is a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit.

Let's do an experiment. Find a glove, but don't put it on your hand. Just hold it up. What's it like? Is it flimsy, lifeless? Yes. That's what our lives are like without the Holy Spirit living inside us. Now put your hand inside the glove. Now what's it like? Move your hand around inside the glove. Is the glove being controlled by your hand? Yes. That's what our lives are like with the Holy Spirit living inside us. John 14:26 says "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you". God did not intend for us to live without His presence. The Holy Spirit is God within us. He's not that "goose bump" feeling you get in church. He's not a "lucky" charm to change your current fortunes. He's the presence of the Almighty God manifested in us. He's not moved by emotion or circumstance. He's moved by our obedience and faith.

I challenge you today to avail yourself to the Holy Spirit. He will give you the life and energy you'll need to make it through the day. He'll keep you on track. He'll take your prayers to the Father, and He'll even tell you what the Father is saying about you. You'll have a Friend in a very high place. So give Him a try today!!!

Prayer:
Holy Spirit, fill me now. I need Your presence in my life. Only You can keep me and sustain me. Teach me the ways of the Father. Teach me how to love and worship Him. Cover me as I surrender to You now and forever. In Jesus' name...Amen.

Live Free!!!

Today's Passage: Galatians 5:1

Memory Verse: 1 Peter 2:15-16

Saturday March 13, 2010

Blessings, Friends & Lifers! I want to spend our time together talking about freedom. Yes, freedom. Why, you say? Because freedom is often misdefined by "our" culture or way of life. The world defines freedom as being exempt from restraint or control. They say it's the power to determine action without restraint. Well, what kind of person would you be if you were able to do whatever you wanted, when you wanted? For me this concept of freedom would not only be a bad idea, it'd be dangerous. How so? I would always choose whatever my flesh wanted. I'd literally be out of control. Wouldn't you? Think about where you were before Jesus saved you. Weren't you walking in this kind of "freedom", still you recognized you needed a savior?

1 Peter 2:15-16 says "This is the will of God, by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men- as free, yet not using freedom as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God". The will of God is for us to use freedom to be "bondservants" for Him. So we can't just do what we want, say what we want, and go where we want? I think not. You see, if I am a bondservant of God, then I have authority over the things that make me ignorant because He has authority over them. That's freedom!!! One of my favorite passages of scripture regarding this subject is Galatians 5:1. Paul encourages us to stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again in the yoke of bondage. Freedom is not making a choice (by the world's definition); freedom is taking authority. It's taking authority over addiction, depression, sexual immorality, and anger/unforgiveness. Basically, the only way to know true freedom is by making sure Jesus Christ is Lord of our lives. Only He can give us the power to walk away from the temptations of this world....for good!!!

I challenge you today to do a personal study on freedom and its benefits. I want you to understand that walking in freedom requires great responsibility, but yields even greater reward. The enemy has done well in decieving us into thinking sin is our only option. He makes us think we'll always be what we are because of our pasts. So even though we know we need to change, most of us don't make an effort to. That's the yoke of bondage Paul spoke of in Galatians. I tell you today that true freedom belongs to you. Not only is it attainable, it's....FREE! The price for your freedom has already been paid by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. So live free, my friends....'cause whom the Son sets free, is free indeed!

Prayer:
Father, I place myself in Your hands. I want to live free. Free from all the bondages that entangle me. I realize I don't have the power to release myself. That power only comes through You. So as I draw closer to You, let me walk in Your freedom more and more everyday. In Jesus' name...Amen!

What Shall We Say?

Friday, March 12,2010

Today's Passage: Romans 8:18;28-39
Memory Verse: Rom.8:31

In these last days, as the return of the Lord grows closer, it seems as if the Saints are bombarded with trials and problems that make it hard to see the promises of God. Money issues... health issues... relationship issues... One thing after another, there seems to be no relief. David describes this dilemna in Psalm 3 when he cries: "Lord, those that trouble me are increasing! There are many that rise up against me. They say of my soul, 'There is no help for Him in God.'" Every believer will agree that the enemy's sole purpose is to unleash his imps upon us in an all-out attack.

But what is it that makes the psalmist, the apostle Paul, and all of us victorious? Is there any way out at all, or should we lock ourselves in and hide from our enemy? Paul makes a bold claim in today's passage. Yes, we go through trials and problems, heartaches and pains. Nevertheless, NOTHING we endure can or will be compared to the GLORY that God will reveal in us. This is a promise that we can hold onto, but it doesn't end there. God doesn't just want us to suffer in silence. He has placed on the inside of us truths that rise up against the attacks of the evil one.

In the passage, Paul asks the question: what shall we SAY to these things? Should we spend all our time complaining about what we don't have, or about what's going on? No, because if God is FOR us, none of those things can overtake or triumph over us. We need to start speaking what we KNOW rather than what we see or hear. When we consider the fact that God didn't even spare His only Son because He wanted us to walk in victory, why wouldn't He make a way for that sacrifice to make provision for us in every trial?

As you go through your fiery furnace situation today or in the near future, remember this: we have ALREADY overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony. Even before being placed in the heat of the fire, the three Hebrew boys declared that their God was able to deliver them. Let your words plant the seeds of victory before you see it. And no matter what you do, let nothing that you go through separate you from God's love, which is REALLY what the enemy's after. Stay in His presence, and declare your victory from your place of protection.

Prayer: Father, whoever dwells in Your secret place always abides in Your shadow. No matter what challenges come, I am so grateful today that my victory is certain. I declare that I will always be Yours no matter what trials I may face. I SAY what You say, and purpose in my heart to go where You're going. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

My Compliments To The Chef!!!!

Today's Passage: Psalm 34:8

Memory Verse: Ephesians 3:20

Thursday March 11, 2010

Hello Friends & Lifers! The motivation for today's devotional comes from a memory I had of being on a cruise. If you've ever been on a cruise you know how much fun they can be. If not, you gotta go. Words cannot express the lengths the cruise ship staff go to to pamper you. Well, the last time I was on a cruise I remember having dinner with Pastor Chad and our wives. We were trying to figure out what we wanted for dessert when the waiter recommended this pudding. Pastor Chad and I were quite skeptical as we are both picky eaters. To our surprise, the dish was delicious!!! I remember being so impressed I was compelled to offer my compliments to the chef.

My Friends, this reminds me of living with God's favor. He goes to such great lengths to take care of us. He dots every "i" and crosses every "t". He even gives us things we didn't expect or ask for. His love is so sweet. Sweet like the dessert on the cruise. "Sweet" is a word usually used to describe something you've tasted right? Psalm 34:8 encourages us to "taste" and see that the Lord is good. The author of this verse wants us to know when God gives, it has a lasting effect. It's something you can savor. Also, it exceeds expectation. Remember this: when you allow God complete control of your life, He'll always exceed your expectations (Eph. 3:20).

The challenge today is to give God total control. If you struggle with "letting go" and allowing Him full access, I encourage you to consult His references (Bible). He's never failed. Allow me to be the waiter who tells you to try "God's" pudding.....it's TO DIE for. After a taste of His love, you'll be looking up to Heaven saying "My compliments to the Chef"!!!

Prayer:
Father, I place my life completely in Your hands. On my best day I cannot come close to Your love and protection. I realize the plan I have for my life pales in comparison to Yours. So I choose You. Now, and forever...Amen!

Work It Out!

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Today's Passage: I Timothy 4:7-8
Memory Verses: I Tim. 4:7-8

The ladies on my job started a weight loss challenge at the beginning of the year. Since that time, I've watched one lady in particular take on this challenge, consistently losing about 5 to 6 pounds a week until literally becoming half the person she used to be not so long ago. When I asked her what was the secret to her success, she told me something I already knew, but just needed to hear again. Basically, she said that she committed herself to working towards her goal of becoming healthy everyday, keeping in mind that where she wanted to be health-wise was the most important thing in her life at that moment.

As I silently admired my workmate for her accomplishment, the Holy Spirit reminded me of this passage and what it implies for my spiritual life. Bodily exercise is extremely important if we as believers want to be "fit" for the Master's use. However, the Word tells us that it "profits only a little". So our focus should be to "exercise ourselves unto godliness", or to discipline ourselves using the principles of godliness that have been outlined for us.

Godliness, unlike any other exercise, is preparation for the battle that we have to face daily as soldiers in God's army. Because none of our weapons are carnal (although the enemy will use poor health against us), we must learn to make denying ourselves part of our daily lives. "Godliness is profitable unto ALL things, having promise of the life that now is, and that which is to come" (I Tim. 4:8). This means that when we take the time to pray, worship God, practice love for others, and keep ourselves from the filth in this world, not only are we pleasing the Father, but we are also opening ourselves up to what life will be like when we go to Heaven.

If you've ever stopped to think about what we'll do when we pass from this life into the next, you'll notice that only those things will go with us. God doesn't want the things we do when we get there to be foreign to us. He wants us to be in love with Him here, because those emotions will only be magnified there. He wants us to pray and seek Him, love others no matter who they are, and get rid of our sin nature. It's spiritual exercise indeed, for our flesh fights this in much the same way as it fights physical activity. So let's all be encouraged to "work it out" in the spirit, and press toward the mark, which is godliness. Like my co-worker's goal, it's more important than anything else we could ever aspire towards.

Prayer: Father, my life's goal is to know You, seek You, and be more like You. I want intimacy with You to be as natural as breathing not only while I'm on this earth, but when You come to take me home to be with You. Teach me to love You now and always. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Spring's On the Way!

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Today's Passage: Galatians 6:7-9
Memory Verses: Gal. 6:7-9

One morning last week, I awoke to the sweet sound of birds chirping, signaling that spring is coming. You never know just how much you miss that sound until you actually hear it after the dreary months of winter. There's just something about the spring season that uplifts you and makes you look forward to the day ahead. By contrast, during the winter, you simply plow along, making yourself get up and do what you must to make it a successful day.

I suppose that's why this passage is so important to believers. If you're not careful, you will go through seasons of "winter" in your walk with Christ where you may think there may not be anything exciting going on. So you go from day to day, just putting one foot in front of the other. But God wants us to remember that He is God, the Sovereign One Who is in control of everything we do. He wants us to realize that He not only sees what we do, but He rewards every act of obedience.

One of the things it's important to remember about serving God is that NOTHING we do is insignificant. Just like the days which run into one another, we have to stay encouraged even through the "winter" times when we don't see the fruits of our efforts. Why? Because, sooner or later, our labor will bear fruit. That's why in this passage we are told to remember that we reap just what we sow. Every prayer we pray, every encouraging word that we speak to others, and everytime we obey God and bring His kingdom here on the earth, we're planting seeds that may not be seen during the winter days.

But look up! Do you hear the birds chirping yet? In your worship time, do you see the days getting brighter? Your Father wants you to be encouraged. Keep doing what you're doing for Him, and don't get tired while doing it. If you have kids, you know how important it is for them to keep a positive attitude when you ask them to do something. You know how well you plan to reward them if they don't complain while working for you.

Well, our Heavenly Father is no different. He's encouraging you today not to get tired of working for Him. Don't just "plow away" at your assignment; stay in an attitude of gratitude, and fellowshp with other believers who are as positive as you are trying to be. When God says, "you SHALL", that means there's no doubt your promise is on its way. If you ask me, that's more than enough reason to wake up with joy.

Prayer: Father, thank You that it is Your heart to reward us for the things we do for Your kingdom. You know that so many distractions come from the enemy that attempt to keep us in the dark of winter, so I'm grateful today that You have made a way for us to be strengthened in You. Fill me now, Holy Spirit. Let Your breath of life be the thing that propels me through every day, and let my life continue to bring You praise. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

It Takes A Man!!!

Today's Passage: 1 Corinthians 15:21

Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 15:22

Sunday, March 6, 2010

Blessings Friends & Lifers! I was listening to a sermon one day and the preacher asked a question that resonated in my spirit. The question was "With all power at His disposal, why didn't God simply conquer death from His throne in Heaven? Why send Jesus? Why the horror of the cross?"

As that question turned in my spirit, I was reminded about the story I heard about an ant. Yes, just humor me for a moment. One day an ant strayed away from his family and decided he would go his own way. As he crawled away, he approached a path that led to a busy roadway. At that moment, a little boy looked down and saw the ant. The boy was moved with compassion as the ant walked closer and closer toward what looked to be impending death. The boy put his hand in front of the ant, hoping to make him turn back toward safety and security. But the ant crawled over his hand and kept going. Again, the boy attempted to re-direct the ant but the ant persisted yet again. After a few failed attempts to save the ant, the boy thought: "I'll send another ant to see if he'll follow him to safety". The last effort proved to be successful. Now imagine the little boy is God and we are the ant. No matter how hard God tried, we still would not adhere to His warnings. We were still not willing to accept His hand of safety. So He sent a "Man" who was full of His spirit, but exposed to the barrier of being human like us.

See, Jesus had to come and walk as a man for our deliverance to be successful. We would not have been able to concieve Him coming in His God-form. Like the ant, we would not have been able to relate to the "big hand" in front of us. Our spirits weren't ready for that level of intervention. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:21, "since by man came death, by Man came also the resurrection of the dead". See, Adam (man) messed it up, so God provided Jesus (Man) to fix it. So no excuses. As a "man", we can take authority over sin and death. And as a "man", we're responsible for bringing other men to God. After all, you're equipped with all you need. What's that you say? You're a live ant....I mean, man!

Prayer:
Thank You Jesus for saving me. I realize without You my life would've ended long ago. I can't imagine being eternally separated from You. I am forever Yours...in Jesus' Name, Amen!

No Preservatives!!!

Today's Passage: Romans 8:16-17

Memory Verse: Ephesians 2:10

Saturday, March 5, 2010

Blessings, Friends & Lifers! If someone were to ask you who you were, what would your answer be? Many of us answer that question based on what we do. Some of us answer based on what we like. So I ask, why is it so easy for us to identify ourselves by partial things? I was in the store the other day and I picked an item from the shelf. On my way to check out, my attention was drawn to the ingredients listed on the back of the container. What? The product was full of this and full of that. It caused me to question whether I was getting what I truly wanted.

I think God feels the same way. He knows who we really are. Yet, He still cares for us. However, we still come to Him with all our additives and preservatives in the hopes of convincing Him we're so much better than what's actually in the container. The truth is, the real man is exactly what God is looking for. He has no interest in what the world has added to us. He doesn't care about what we dress ourselves up with to convince others of our importance. He just wants us. What "He" created. My wife likes us to eat things that are described as "whole grain". You know, food items without all the dyes and chemicals that fill the other stuff. God wants us whole. He wants us the way we were intended.

The challenge today is for you to find out who you really are. Honestly, you'll not be successful in doing this without reading God's word. If you try to find identity in where you live, work, or who you're related to, the only thing you'll find is a bunch of additives and preservatives!!!

Prayer:
Father as I find my way through this life, help me grow more in You. Let my first desire be to identify more and more with You. Although I have been through many things, I choose to not be identified by them. I will not allow them to discourage or distract me. My life is always in Your hands, in Jesus' Name...Amen!

The Position of Praise

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Today's Passage: 2 Chronicles 20:18-25
Memory Verses: 2 Chronicles 20:22-23

Here's another movie scene for you: imagine you were among the 300 soldiers standing before the vast army of Xerxes with nowhere to retreat to. You know that death is certain, as you find yourself surrounded by thousands of enemies who are only awaiting their leader's command to attack. This is the climax of the epic movie of the Spartans, "300", which ends in the exact manner anyone would predict.

But here's the inspiring part of the film that reminds me of who we are as believers: even though they know they are about to die, those men stand tall and shout "Sparta" at the top of their lungs, declaring their loyalty for the army they serve with their last breath. And here's why we have every reason to praise God during every moment of whatever battle we're fighting.

In the passage, once Jehoshaphat receives confirmation that God is in control, he immediately begins to worship God. But he doesn't stop there; he appoints seasoned praisers to stand in position and carry out the purpose of exalting God even in the midst of their enemies. And as they continue to praise Him, that's when the soldiers begin to turn on one another and destroy each other.

Everytime I watch the movie "300", how I wish the ending could've been different for those courageous men. Just like it happened with Jehoshaphat's army, I wish angels would've appeared from out of the blue and killed every one of Xerxes' men. But boy, am I glad that we serve a God Who has promised to destroy our enemies when we stand boldly even in the heat of the battle and praise Him.

This is no fairy tale, saints. Praise works! It sends such confusion in the camp of the enemy that they are bound to lose track of you, especially when you do two things. First and foremost, believe in the Lord Your God, and you shall be established; secondly, believe his prophets (your pastors), and you shall prosper (v. 20). Third, as you allow the praisers that God has appointed to keep you in His presence, your enemies are sure to fall dead at your feet. Stand in the position of praise and see your enemies defeated today.

Prayer: Father, how can I thank You for making it possible for me to be victorious before my enemy? I am so grateful that You have made a way of escape for me no matter what battle I'm fighting today. I make a commitment to join with my pastors and praise leaders to shout out Your praise at all times. Thank You for the victory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Position Yourself!!!

Today's Passage: 2 Chronicles 20:17

Memory Verse: Psalms 37:23

Thursday March 4, 2010

Are you a sports fan who just saw your team lose a big one? I am. Okay, for those of you who aren't, have you ever been too late for something? Remember that toy during the big Christmas sale? Yeah, too late huh? Someone else just bought the last one....ugh! Now you know the feeling.

I was reviewing an old football game the other night and I couldn't believe how many times the players on defense was out of their assigned positions. You could literally see touchdowns by the other team that should've been interceptions by our team, or first downs that should've been tackles for losses. It seems being out of position by the smallest margin can prove to be costly. Okay, I may be belly-aching a bit but stay with me. Life is full of battles and challenges, successes and failures. So as we live as God's created, we must always seek to be where He's purposed us to be. Psalms 37:23 says "The steps of a good/righteous man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way". God maps out our daily steps before we get out of bed in the morning. It's like a spiritual GPS system. All we have to do is follow the voice in the system (you know what I mean).

It's important that we do this when faced with trials also. The enemy of our souls prides himself on ambushing us from every side. No area is off-limits. He wants to destroy our marriages, our children, our health, our finances, and everything in between. So if the enemy is going to attack me, I'd rather be in position when he does. Can you imagine trying to fight the devil while you're outside the plan/position of God? In 2 Chronicles 20:15, the Lord tells King Jehoshaphat not to be afraid of their impending battle with their enemies. He told the king that the battle wasn't his, it was God's. Wow! For those of you who are facing a challenge as you read this, know that the battle isn't yours...it's the Lord's.

The key to success however is obedience. God told Jehoshaphat not to be afraid because He knew fear causes people to go their own way. However, verse 17 in the afore mentioned chapter tells him to "position himself". In other words friends, don't go your own way. Follow God's GPS coordinates and you won't even have to fight. You can stand still an see the salvation of your marriage, children, health, and finances. What a promise!

I pray you find the strength to get in position. Let God's power be manifested in your life. Don't ever turn away from God for anyone or anything, and the victory will be yours!!!

Prayer:
Father I thank you for Your divine covering. I realize I need to follow the plan You've set out for me. As I am faithful to You and Your instructions I'll walk in victory over every attack of the enemy...In Jesus' Name... Amen!

God's Ultimate Will for the Body

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Today's Passage: Ephesians 4:1-16
Memory Verses: Eph. 4:1-3, 13-16

In our society, we often laugh at how ridiculous it looks when some parents allow their children to remain in one developmental stage too long (in diapers, or keeping the pacifier, for example). But even the most tolerant person would gladly admit that an eight-year-old who still has to be changed or nursed is no laughing matter. This is the image the Father wants to give us of the state of our individual churches, and His body as a whole, so that we can develop an intolerant attitude for the things that keep us from growing up.

The passage speaks of us walking worthy of our calling (that of saints), free from confusion and re-hashing old matters that only cause us to walk in strife with one another. A child's dependence on his mother for nourishment rather than wanting to feed himself is a sign of selfishness, which is what we communicate when we put ourselves before the needs of others.

For this reason, God's ultimate will for His children was to supply us with the Holy Spirit, Who would require us to exercise the character of humility, longsuffering, and patient love. He knows that His children will never desire to become potty-trained without His Spirit, which will result in our leaving the stench of our old sin nature everywhere we go. So thanks be to the Father for knowing that we need our apostles, pastors, prophets, evangelists, and teachers to train and equip us on how to let go of our destructive attitudes while learning how to treat one another.

Through this painstaking process, we learn how to submit to His will. But we slow the progress down when we become impatient with others in the body who have not yet understood how important it is to depend on the Holy Spirit's discipline. But God is merciful, and has already promised that He will send His Son back for a church without spot or wrinkle. So you'd better believe He will continue to convict and woo us through His Spirit until we ALL come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, mature and ready to reflect Christ's love to a dying world.

Prayer: Father, how loving and patient You are, setting up a plan for Your children that involves training us to let go of the things that do not bring Your Name glory. Forgive us for sometimes forgetting that our lives are not just about us, but that You are equipping us for growing Your kingdom. Help me do my part to work with the Holy Spirit and keep unity in the bond of peace as You accomplish Your Will in all our lives. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
