Renew Your Mind

Today's Passage: Philippians 4:6-8
Memory Verses: Romans 12:2

I was watching "The Wiz" the other night. I've never seen it all the way from the beginning, so the part with the scarecrow and the crows really caught my attention. I noticed that the crows were having the time of their lives convincing the scarecrow that he'd never be able to get down off of the post he was on. Everytime he tried to speak up about his dream of getting down, their voices became louder than his, and they even got him to rehearse what they thought about him by making him sing a song they called their anthem: "You Can't Win". It wasn't until Dorothy came along and drove the crows away that the scarecrow was able to believe he could actually be successful and get down.

This scene reminded me of the message entitled "The Peace of God" ministered by Pastors Chad and Nette. It basically described the voices of "protest" assigned to us by the enemy to keep repeating our failures and inability to be what God has already said we can and will be. Everytime we get ready to focus on the promises God has for us, the devil's imps are going to come and chirp in our ears, sometimes even getting us to rehearse all the reasons why we CAN'T accomplish our dreams. But here's where the movie differs from our reality as the children of the Most High God.

As soon as we begin to hear those voices speak the opposite of what God has said, we are given authority in today's passage to get rid of all anxious thoughts and begin to pray. Defeat the enemy's words with the Word of God, thanking Him for what He's promised, and for what is coming to pass in your life. As we do this, something miraculous will take place; the spirit of peace will put a devil-proof shield between us and those imps, and their voices will be silenced. But we're the only ones who can keep those voices from being heard again. We must keep our minds stayed only on what is truth (from God's Word), lovely, just, pure, noble, and of good report.

You see, those crows knew they could not stop the scarecrow from getting down if he thought he could. Their only ammunition was to plant thoughts of failure and insecurity in his mind. All the enemy can do is try to get us to THINK we can't be successful Christians who are also financially secure AND have marriages that are happy AS WELL AS children who love the Lord with all their hearts. My Bible says I can have all that if I delight myself in Him. So the only thing standing in my way is my own mind. I'm ready to be and do everything God says I can be and do, aren't you? All we need to do is renew our minds and conform our will to that of the Father. I can't wait to see God perform it in us!

Prayer: Thank You, Daddy, for being so faithful to make provision for us to defeat the enemy through our relationship with You. Give me the grace today to hear only Your Voice tell me who I am in You. As I renew my mind, may my life always make You famous. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Clean It Out!

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Today's Passge: Luke 9:22-25
Memory Verse: Luke 9:23

Every once in a while, health experts and nutritionists say it's important to "detox". This simply means to clean out your digestive system of all the things that keep it bogged down as a result of unhealthy eating. Number one on the list are "junky" snack foods that only taste good going down, but add no nutritional value to our bodies because they're filled with preservatives and other chemicals that make us addicted to them. The number two deadly poison that we consume without thought are the "white foods": processed items such as white bread, pasta, rice, biscuits, and anything breaded (made with enriched white flour). Again, they taste great going down, but our digestive system has a hard time knowing where to put them since they are only loaded with calories and not too much else. So they're simply "stored" on a part of us that everyone can see --a sure sign that we're carrying too much flesh.

Now go with me into the spirit realm. On a daily basis, we allow so much "junk" to enter our spirits. One example is the long list of negative things on television that we see and hear such as the news, talk shows that offer "entertainment" during the week, and reality shows which are simply the enemy's way of persuading us to accept our demoralized society for what it has become. Some of us may even go so far as to indulge in "white magic" (the enemy's way of getting us to enhance his kingdom without knowing it). We may still be reading the daily horoscope and consulting "seers" or fortune tellers, thinking they are harmless activities when actually they blind us and tune out the voice and will of the Father in our lives.

Saints, when we gave our lives to the Lord, we took on the characteristics of a new kingdom: the kingdom of light. It's a kingdom whose sole purpose is to bring God's will to this earth. But because we are in this world, some of its ugliness finds its way into our spirits, and pretty soon, we've put on more "flesh" -- more of what WE think, want, and feel. The only way to get back to where we can focus on what God wants once more is to spiritually detox, or dedicate ourselves to a time of fasting and prayer. You see, God knows that living in this world will put a strain on our spiritual well-being because the enemy is a master at making the things of this world too attractive to pass up, much like all that great-tasting but toxic food. We need time to flush the sights, sounds, and smells of this world out of our systems, laying aside the weight that so easily distracts us.

Find some time to deny yourself and come away to all that is pure and naturally divine. Cut out the things that stop us from hearing and seeing the Father. It may be difficult, but nothing worth gaining is easy. As you begin your spiritual detox, you'll literally begin to walk lighter. This is your sure sign that you're in tune with God and open to His will. Ready? Let's get cleaned out!

Prayer: Father, thank You for thinking of everything. You already made a way for me to get back to You after spending any amount of time in this world. I begin to deny myself now, pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling which is You. Take me higher and deeper in You, Lord, and get all the glory from my sacrifice. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Ready For Glory!!!

Today's Passage: 1 Chronicles 16:35
Memory Verse: Same

"Save us, O God of our salvation; gather us together, and deliver us from the Gentiles, to give thanks to Your holy name, and to triumph in Your praise."

Hello, Friends & Lifers! Are you ready to recieve what God has for you today? Have you prepared yourself for the encounter with the Father you're gonna have today? If you didn't, you should've. But don't be discouraged, because there's still time. You can begin the process of setting your mind on the glory of God right now.

Our passage for the day is a praise of anticipation. David was giving God glory for what He was going to do. "Save us!" he exclaimed. He knew that the first thing God's presence did to us was expose our need for Him. We should always remember to make our services about Him. He deserves the worship, not us. When we refuse to submit ourselves to the move of His spirit, we become like the Pharisees who felt they were perfect and therefore didn't need God's salvation. David then asked God to gather the people together. Why do Christians who say they love Jesus skip church? I'll tell you why. First, it's because church, as we know it, has lost its relevance, and second, because religion has taught us church is more meaningful on holidays. We should want to be together. We should want to turn out in big numbers in order for God to see His workmanship. David understood it takes unity in numbers to access God's power.

In conclusion, David offered a praise of thanksgiving. He knew it took an attitude of gratitude to set the atmosphere. He hadn't recieved what God was going to give him yet, but he still said thanks. When you praise God by faith, it allows you to have access to things you shouldn't have access to. By giving God praise the way he did, David gained access to victory. He said, "To give thanks to Your holy name, and to TRIUMPH in Your praise." What does that mean? It means if you praise, you win. It's that simple. So get ready for an awesome day in the Lord. Let's come together, be thankful, and see our victory manifested. Having this mindset makes one excited about entering into God's presence. Get ready, my friends...it's going to be an awesome day!

Prayer:
Father, I'm coming into Your house to bless You and serve You. I want to be in Your presence today. I need You to live big in me and have free reign in my life. Thank You for all You've done. Because of Your sacrifice I will always be totally devoted to You and only You, in Jesus' name...Amen

The Language of the Kingdom

Saturday, May 29, 2010

Today's Passage: Matthew 6:8-13
Memory Verse: Same

My wife is always thinking about traveling. You see, she's originally from West Africa, so traveling is part of her life. Where there are some benefits to traveling abroad, there are some barriers to it as well. For instance, not being able to speak the language of the country you're in can be the difference between an awesome vacation, or an awful one.

For Christians, knowing the language that gets us to the Father is key to spiritual growth. Most people struggle to maintain a relationship with Him because when in His presence, they don't know the lingo. They haven't studied enough to learn the layout of His kingdom, so they lack the ability to effectively express themselves or understand His expressions. Jesus not only taught the disciples to pray, He taught them the language. He told them to address God as "Father"; but acknowledge He is Holy (hallowed be thy name). Jesus told them that the subject of all communication is the status of the kingdom, and that status should always be mirroring on Earth what it is doing in Heaven. Next is the motivation to recieve daily from the Father, and to let your portion be forgiveness. Finally, it's all about the kingdom. It's God's, and with it comes all power and authority forever.

I challenge you to learn the language of the kingdom. When you do, you'll learn its purpose. You'll also learn your place in it. Don't make the mistake of using the language the world uses to access its gods. You know what it sounds like: gimme gimme, me first, I I I, if you'll do this, and all that stuff. Our Father is a Holy King, so He knows what we need. He also knows when we need it. So the shopping lists don't move Him, nor do the tears. He's only moved by faith and obedience. Remember: His eyes move to and fro seeking those who are totally devoted. We can't have His presence if we don't speak His language.

Prayer:
I just wanna be where You are, dwelling daily in Your presence. I don't wanna worship from afar. I wanna be where You are. I need You God. Speak to my heart and I'll follow You forever. In Jesus' name, Amen!

Can You Hear Me Now?

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Today's Passage: Numbers 22
Memory Verses: James 1:22-25

When I was growing up,I had to receive "physical" reminders from my mom to do things exactly the way she said to do it. The reason for this was that I was truly what you would call an absent-minded child. If I wasn't doing something that completely interested me -- like reading books, writing, or listening to music -- anyone who was trying to give me instructions had to repeat them several times if they wanted me to complete the task correctly. I even remember my mom's hand having to make contact with my skin to "wake" me up when she was trying to get me to listen to what she was saying. Then, when she had my attention, she would ask this question: "Can you hear me now?"

I was reminded of this time in my life when I read today's passage about Balaam. For a moment there, I couldn't figure out if he was one of God's prophets, or if he was just a man who was sensitive to the voice of the children of Israel's God. Whoever he was, it was awfully hard for him to remember what God told him NOT to do. I actually got the impression that he was deliberately trying to do the exact opposite of what God said. It got so bad that God had to send an angel who gave Balaam's donkey the ability to talk before he even got a clue what his purpose was.

It would be so easy for me to sit here and laugh at Balaam, thinking about how terrible he was at listening to God. But as ridiculous as it seems, believers often need a "reality jolt" from God every now and then, too. Look what happened when Adam walked away from Eve for just a moment. And remember the disaster in Lot's life when his wife did the opposite of the angel's instructions in Sodom and Gomorrah? Don't even get me started with the story of Jonah. Three days in a stinky, wet fish? What about King Saul? He lost his entire kingdom over disobedience.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture. God means business when He tells us "do this", "go there", "don't say that", or just "be still and know that I am God". There's nothing we could gain from being unwilling to completely obey God except pain, heartache, and a whole lot of wasted time. If we truly want to see God move miraculously in our lives, we're going to have to trust that He is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent of what He said (Numbers 23:19). If He said He'll do it, you'd better look for it to happen. In the same manner, if He told you to do it exactly this way, do the best you can to comply. After all, obedience is far better than sacrifice. And Daddy would much rather reward us for doing it the first time He told us than to spank us to get our attention the second time around.

Prayer: Father, I repent for the times I've been so absentmindedly focusing on my own goals and desires that I didn't hear or obey You. Help me today to walk after Your heart, doing it the way You said the first time. Thank You for never giving up on me, but I'm even more grateful that You've given me the authority to be obedient. Be glorified forever in my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

The Lost Sheep

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Today's Passage: Matthew 18:10-14
Memory Verse: Matt. 18: 12-14

Sometimes on our Christian journey, it seems as if we're playing the childhood game of "And then there was (one less)". One moment, we're all serving God, supposedly on fire and totally devoted to Him. The next, someone falls away for one reason or another. Those of us who remain go through a range of emotions. On one end is offensiveness (how dare they turn their back on everything God did for them?) On the other is hurt (why didn't they come to us when they were struggling?) In the middle, however, we're worried about whether they'll ever be able to come back to the Lord.

I love this passage because it puts us in check in all three of these areas. God's Word to us today is strong and confident about how He wants us to see those who are "lost". To the first question, Jesus warns us not to despise them, for "in Heaven their angels always see the face of My Father" (Matt. 18:10). This statement confirms what we already know about how carefully God watches over each soul, giving each of us an angel to gently cover and guide us back to His will. To the second question, God's answer is that they didn't come to us because, no matter how concerned we might be, we could NEVER be more concerned about their souls than He is. Whereas we might allow them to consume our thoughts for a few moments at a time, they NEVER leave His mind or heart for even one second. Remember, He's the One with the plans for using them to make Him famous before they were even born.

In light of Jesus' attitude in this passage, I guess the third question is as obsolete as the rest. There is certainly no need to worry about them getting back to a relationship with the Father -- especially if we are interceeding for them. Even to the stiffnecked children of Israel, God said, "I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy" (Exodus 33:19). Everytime I remember the great lengths God went to just so He could bring salvation to me, I'm reassured that this is the very same God Who is capable of leaving no stone unturned to find His "lost sheep". If there are people in your life in this spiritual state today, don't quit calling their names out to the Father -- but not out of worry. Be CONFIDENT that God is just as determined to find them as they are to be lost, and give Him praise in advance that they ARE coming back to the fold.

Prayer: Father, thank You for reminding us today that those who have walked away from You are still in Your heart, and so they should still be in ours. We call every single one of them back to Your feet, wherever they may be. And we DO give You praise in advance for knowing just what to do to bring them back to You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

H.U.M.P. Day!!!

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Today's Passage: Matthew 18:21-35
Memory Verse: Matthew 6:33

Praise God for another HUMP Day! God's ultimate mission and purpose is our daily motivation. Through the acknowledgement of HUMP Day, we are able to show total devotion to our Holy Father. Today, let's focus on the Kingdom of God. This is the place where our destiny and purpose lives. It's the place where blessing derives, and it should be our daily focus.

Our mission today is "forgiveness." In Matthew 18:21, Jesus tells the disciples that the kingdom is like a king who wanted to settle his accounts with his servants (those who owed him). A man who owed him 10,000 talents was brought before the king, and he could not make payment. He begged the king for another chance, and the king forgave him of all his debts. After this, the man had a servant who owed him a debt thrown in jail. This made the king very angry. The king asked: "After I forgave you of your debt, should you not have had compassion on your servant?" He ultimately sent him to be tortured and imprisoned.

So Friends & Lifers, if there's someone who owes you, forgive them. Jesus paid a great price for us, and we'll never be able to pay it back. Besides, if they were able to pay you back, they would have already. Also, place yourself in position to recieve forgiveness by paying back debts "you" owe. If you owe someone (in the body of Christ especially), have enough integrity to discuss the debt with them in all humility. Offer what you can and ask to be forgiven. Fulfilling this mission will teach you kingdom citizenship.

If you'd like to share a "HUMP Day" experience (testimony), don't forget to do so on our blog! Be blessed.

I Spy A Hero!!!

Tuesday May 25, 2010

Today's Passage: Joshua 2:3-4
Memory Verse: Joshua 6:17

One of the tests of being totally devoted to God is the crossroad of doing what you gotta do and doing what God said to do. I know, I know, the answer to this dilemma SHOULD be a no-brainer, but it's sometimes easier said than done. We're often put in positions where tough choices have to be made. These choices sometimes hurt people we don't mean to hurt. They can affect relationships in adverse ways, and that's only if we choose God's path. That's right. Total devotion will cost you something. It'll get folks out of your life that never should've been in it. It'll also take you to levels you've never been before.

Remember Rahab? Rahab was a harlot in Jericho. She had a house near the gates of the city, making it easy for her to do whatever she wanted. Joshua sent two spies into Jericho and she hid them in her home. She vowed to keep silent as long as the Israelites spared her and her family. As I said, total devotion can be difficult when you're being called away from what you've always known. Old habits, relationships, and hang-out spots will be eliminated when you decide to be devoted. However, once the decision has been made, the reward will outweigh the aggravation by leaps and bounds. When Rahab hid the spies in her home, her life was never the same. No longer was she identified by her past. She instantly went from harlot to hero. Also, because of her TOTAL devotion (even in the face of her king), God wiped out everyone and everything in her past. She, not the college brother, or the pretty sister, was used to bring salvation to her family. She used her devotion to make God famous in her family.

So make the right choice today. You can do it. Total devotion to God will set you up to be blessed beyond measure. It doesn't matter about your past. Just like Rahab, the moment you decide to cling to the Father, you'll never be the same again.

Prayer: Father, I hear You calling me higher and deeper in You. Thank You for choosing me to make You famous. Help me focus on the glory and not the pain it costs me. I cling to You now and always. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

No Other Choice But Praise

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Today's Passage: Habakkuk 3: 17-19
Memory Verses: Habakkuk 3: 18-19

No matter what denomination we profess to be a part of in Christianity, we're taught for the most part that praise is what we must do whether everything is going well with us or not. But you've got to have a special relationship with God (totally devoted, really)to still allow every fibre of your being to be in agreement with giving your God praise when you have a physical excuse not to do so. Let me explain.

In a hospital room at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL lies a lady who is fighting for her very life. Three weeks ago, she was life-flighted to that hospital from church service, where she had been doing what she does every Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday: praising her God. When her family arrived at the hospital, they were told that she had had a stroke. For the last few weeks, she has been heavily sedated in between several surgeries, and still has not regained her speech. The doctors are saying that she has a tremendous amount of rehab and physical therapy ahead of her.

But what my courageous sister DOES respond to is prayer, the name of Jesus, and genuine praise. Without hesitation, when anyone who enters the room begins to pray, sing, or speak the Word of LIFE over her, you can see her hands begin to creep upward, although hindered by the tubes. Pretty soon, her hands have formed the posture of praise, and you just KNOW: this lady is in the very throneroom of the Father.

Saints, if there were ever a time to have an excuse not to praise God, that would be it. At what point does God understand we just don't have the strength to show our adoration? Someone who might not know Him that well may think Him cruel for expecting us to give our all even after we've nothing left to give. What kind of God would allow you to be knocked down and almost out, then require praise?

Praise is the thing our Creator placed within us that we can use which instantaneously transports us from the middle of our circumstances into His presence. He knows that, at the moments when our flesh would have us to remain depressed and focused on what it looks, sounds, and feels like, we NEED to praise Him so we can gain the strength to get His will to manifest from the spirit realm into the natural on our behalf. Don't you know that, although my sister cannot say a word that we can hear, her uplifted hands are a physical sign that her spirit is crying out, "Lord, I'm still here! I know You have a plan, and I trust You to see me through this!" And to that, I'm more than confident that God heard and is responding with healing. May those of us who have the use of our faculties take advantage of the strength God has given us to praise Him without reservation IN SEASON, so that when we do walk through the seasons of pain or great testing, every part of us will have no other choice but to praise.

Prayer: Father, thank You for reminding me that there is NO season I could ever go through where I wouldn't be able to find some way to praise You. You are my peace in the storm, my joy in sorrow, and my only hope in a dark place. May everything within me give You praise NO MATTER WHERE I may find myself. As long as I have breath, I WILL ALWAYS GIVE YOU PRAISE. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Just Wanna Make You Famous!!!

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Today's Passage: 1 Chronicles 16:24-25
Memory Verse: Same

"Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is also to be feared above all gods."

The word "glory" is defined as great praise, honor, or distinction bestowed by consent. It is the source of admiration and FAME. Whenever we give God "glory", we are essentially declaring His goodness to everyone we see. We're showing our gratitude before the nations. God's glory is released into the world from the hearts of His children. It's revealed by lips that praise and hearts that worship. The Bible says He inhabits the praise of His people. That means God is attracted to places where He is getting His glory. What am I saying? I'm saying if You need the presence of the Most High in your life you should start making Him famous. That's right, people. The more famous we make Him, the more we get to be in His presence. David figured it out. He knew it wasn't enough for people to know him; he wanted people to know God. David was one of the first to desire to make God famous. He said "For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised." Great, in this context, means 'all'. So David said the Lord is bigger than "all things", so "all things" should praise Him (make Him famous). I don't know about you, but I get excited about how great God is. My excitement goes beyond Sunday, too. I want to bring Him glory at work on Monday. I want my life to make Him famous by the way I treat my wife and children. With every step I take, I want to be used to introduce people to Him. You can do it too. Start today by going to church and making the experience about Him. Take your Bible, a pen, and a note pad so you can leave with something you can revisit and apply to your life. Don't be too embarassed to praise with abandonment. God's ready to move in your life. Are you ready to move for His? Let's make Him famous...

Prayer:
Lord, I'll declare Your greatness wherever I go. You're worthy of glory, honor, and praise. No-one's greater than You. No-one's bigger, and no-one's more powerful. You are my source and my redeemer. Glory to Your name in all the earth. In Jesus' name. Amen

I'll Make You Famous!

Saturday May 22, 2010

Today's Passage: Matthew 9:8
Memory Verse: Same

What does Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Brad & Angelina, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and Wesley Snipes all have in common? They're all famous. They can't go anywhere without someone recognizing them. The "red carpet" is laid out for them whereever they arrive. They are truly the most popular people in the world.

What makes a person famous? Is it the talent they display on the big screen, playing arena, or cd? Fame is defined as widespread reputation; public eminence. To have fame is to have a reputation that preceeds you. People you've never met seem to know everything about you. But how does one become famous? People become famous by the devotion of their fans. That's right, the fans. What kind of success could Will Smith claim if noone came to his movies? Being on the "A" list in Hollywood is all about the size of your fanbase. The fans dictate the demand of the entertainer. That being said, as fans of Jesus, are we doing a good enough job making and keeping Him famous? When a "famous" singer does a concert, the building is packed to capacity. However, there's empty seat after empty seat in arenas (churches) that feature Jesus every week. A famous author wrote a book earlier this year and millions of people bought and read it. Are we buying and reading Jesus' books? Where are the t-shirts? Where are the crowds? Where are screams of excitment for just being in His presence? "Jesus will You sign my autograph?" "Jesus will You touch my hand?" "I want to be You, Jesus. So I'll dress like You, act like You, talk like You, and live like You!" "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!"

I challenge you today to be a true fan of Jesus. Do something today to "make Him famous." Share His love. Get someone excited about Him. Get ready......He's coming to a sanctuary near you!

Prayer:
Jesus I want everyone in the world to know You. I am so excited about Your presence. You have done so many awesome things for me. Let my life bring fame to You. Let my attitude bring You glory (defined as fame and credibility). I'll be mindful of everything I do because it's my desire to make You famous....And all His fans said, Amen!

Devotion's Promises

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Today's Passage: Psalm 37
Memory Verses: Ps.37:4-5

I was giving my kids at school a lunch/movie reward today. They wanted to watch a musical version of Alice in Wonderland, so I put it in. I'm always looking for something that speaks to me or gives me a "message" from everyday things, but this time I truly wasn't paying that much attention. Nevertheless, I began to notice something interesting going on with Alice. When she thought about how small and unable she was to reach the key to open a door, a bottle of liquid appeared, and she was able to grow tall enough to reach it.

You know how the story develops. Before long, she grows taller than she expects, and becomes too large for even the house she is in. So something else magically appears, allowing her to chew and shrink. But of course she gets so small that she almost drowns in the tears she cried when she'd gotten oversized. Do you see a pattern here? She was following the desires of her heart, but could not find a comfortable balance in spite of getting exactly what she wanted each time.

How does this story apply to us? You and I have so many desires bottled up inside of us. But, because there are just as many distractions that may be sent to keep us from the true promises of our Father, God is not in the business of giving us everything we could possibly want. God's prescription for receiving the promises that HE has set aside for us is to shut out all the distractions and focus on making HIM our greatest desire. Why is this important? The more we devote ourselves to serving and growing in Him, the more we can recognize the counterfeit desires.

One of the greatest byproducts of receiving our promise is REST. If it's truly from God, He gives us the ability to be at rest and wait on it. The blessing of the Lord makes us rich and adds no sorrow. Brothers and sisters, whatever your desire is today -- REST in the knowledge that, if it's in His will, it's yours. Learn to love Him more now than you ever have. This will ensure that, once the blessing becomes yours, you won't begin to worship or give your devotion to "it" rather than Him. As you wait, free from anxiety, your prayer will change from: "God, all I want is ..." to "all I want is You. EVERYTHING else is secondary." And THAT'S where we'll truly begin to receive the promises guaranteed as a result of our devotion.

Prayer: Father, You have my complete devotion. Forgive me for the times when I've allowed my eyes to wander to some earthly thing, thinking for a brief moment that it could possibly satisfy the void only You can fill. Give me Your grace to fall in love with You more and more daily, and may the things of this world become dimmed in the light of Your glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Total Devotion

Today's Passage: Genesis 6:5-7
Memory Verse: Genesis 6:8

Thursday May 20, 2010

Are you devoted to God, Friends & Lifers? Are you totally commited to His will for your life? To be devoted to a person is to give all your love and attention to them. They never have to compete with others for your time and affections. When we are devoted to God, He draws us to Him. We're thrust into a lifestyle of intimacy that changes us forever.

Remember Noah? You should. Because if it weren't for him we wouldn't be here today. Genesis 6:5 says "Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So He said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them." There was so much evil on the earth that God wanted to destoy it. You think we're living in bad times? God was so grieved, He was even going to destroy the cattle and birds. The condition of the earth was so depraved, destruction seemed to be the only fix. "But Noah", verse 8 says, "found grace in the eyes of the Lord." Amidst all the evil, God found one man who was totally devoted to Him, and because of that man, humanity as we know it was preserved.

When you're totally devoted to God, it doesn't matter who's doing what. Other people can live any way they want, but a devoted heart can't be turned. Also, God reveals His plans to the devoted. When He found Noah, He set him aside and revealed to him how He planned to destroy the earth, but because of him mankind would be preserved. What loved-one, co-worker, or neighbor will get another chance at life because of your devotion? Did you know God has the compassion to save them because of the relationship He has with you?

So if you desire to walk closely with God, stay devoted to Him. If you need Him to cover and preserve you, stay devoted. If your life seems to lack purpose and direction, devote yourself completely to the will of God. You see where it got Noah....and us!

Prayer:
Father, I devote myself to Your will. I know my peace, salvation, and favor lies in being connected to You. Draw me closer to You. I need You to have total control of my life. I'm Yours forever, in Jesus' name. Amen

H.U.M.P. Day!!!

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

His Ultimate Mission & Purpose is what we live for. Most people spend their lives wrapped up in their own agendas. They put themselves under so much pressure to acquire things God says are already theirs. And what is the result? The result is a life full of habits, soul ties, inquities, and transgressions. That being said, this HUMP day mission will be a little different.

Our mission today is "demolition". God wants us to take an introspective view of ourselves. Look for residue of past habits, relationships, and/or struggles. If you have any, destroy them. Use the word of God like a wrecking ball. Let it swing through your life and demolish the last strongholds of the enemy. When you're done, build an altar of prayer and praise to our God in those spaces. Allow yourself to become even more desparate for Him. Yield yourself to "total devotion". Let nothing be more important to you than He is. If you do, your life will never be the same.

Prayer:
Lord, I surrender myself to You. I demolish everything in my life that doesn't represent You. I am completely devoted to You, God. Now bind, draw, and pull me to You. Remove the space between us, and I'll forever be Yours. In Jesus' name...Amen!

Signs of Devotion

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Today's Passage: Mark 16:15-20
Memory Verses: Mk 16:17, 18, 20

Something else that struck me about the word this past Sunday was the awesome signs and wonders God worked in the lives of His faithful. He looked to and fro, and found those who were willing to forsake all to obey and follow Him. Just in case we read those accounts and become tempted to think people like Noah, Daniel, Ezekiel and the apostles have something special going for them, look more closely. They all have one major thing in common: their devotion to God.

To tell you the truth, we tend to approach our walk with God in the same "to-do list"-type manner we appoach everything else. So when you ask yourself the tough question ("Am I REALLY devoted to God?"), don't forget to focus on the ATTITUDE or HEART God is looking for. When God chose Noah to save the world from water, would He have gone through with His choice if Noah had constantly complained about how much work he had cut out for him on building a boat to protect them from rain no-one had ever seen? I can promise you He wouldn't have.

I guess our challenge for today is really to keep our hearts pure from negativity and doubt if we truly want God to use ordinary folks like us in extraordinary ways. The passage talks of signs that will follow those who BELIEVE. If we believe what God's word says is true, we will carry ourselves with an expectancy to see His hand move in the lives of those around us. We will not have time to entertain double-minded people who want to serve God only when it's convenient for them. Our sole purpose will be to remain DEVOTED to God's ways and plans for our lives as well as others.

What an amazing thing to be next in line for God's signs and wonders! As we concentrate more on following and loving Him, those signs will follow like a magnet -- just like they did for every saint from the Bible days.

Prayer: Father, You have proven time and time again that You are no respector of persons. You love me just as much as any of your children. Hear my heart say today that I want to be close to You as well as used by You to show the world that Nothing shall be impossible. Get the glory out of my life for as long as You desire. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

For a Little While

Today's Passage: 1 Peter 1:3-9
Memory Verse: James 1:2-3

An absolutely awesome word came forth from our pastors this past Sunday about faith hall of famers who were able to withstand fiery trials because they were totally devoted to our God. The hearts of those of us who were in the sanctuary swelled with a fierce desire to be brave and determined to please God like Noah, the three Hebrew boys, and the woman with the issue of blood. And yet, how many of us can say with conviction that we walk through our trials with the joy that James talks about?

Trials are a time of testing, or a time of proving our unconditional devotion to God. These come so that our faith, which Peter tells us is so much more precious than anything earthly we can ever desire, can shine brightly before God after everything else is burned up in the fire. They don't come to destroy us, as the enemy tries so hard to convince us during the test. On the contrary, they really do make us stronger -- we become more confident of God's power to deliver us, and of the enemy's powerlessness to stop God's plans in our lives.

So if there's a formula for coming through trials with flying colors, it would be this: 1)Be very aware of God's promises to us while going through. Remember Jeremiah 29:11-13. God sees the end from the beginning of our time of testing. He knows what He wants you to develop into at the end of it. Have you ever had to take your children to the doctor's office for vaccines? While they're getting them, you can't stand to see them endure the pain. As a matter of fact, if you could take the pain for them, you would. But you know that if they don't go through this, their immune systems wouldn't stand a chance of fighting for them against deadly diseases. So focus on what God has planned for you to GAIN during this time.

2) Remember that the trial is ONLY FOR A LITTLE WHILE. Sometimes, our trials seem like forever. I'm sure to the woman with the issue of blood, twelve years felt like she had been sick all her life. But one moment took away all her suffering, and gave her pain a purpose. If she'd never gone through what she had, she'd never have been given the opportunity to meet Jesus, the Healer. 3) Find joy in the presence of the Lord. Live daily so that those who find out what you went through AFTER it's over (not DURING the process) can give God praise for the strength He gave you to walk through it. Let your days be filled with moments of worship to the Father, Who alone is gracious to lift the burden so that you can walk with your head held high. May satan get no glory out of what God is doing in your life, but may God get all praise, honor, and glory.

Prayer: Father, here's my life. I'm totally devoted to You no matter what trials I have to walk through. Help me not to spend my time complaining about the discomfort, but rather remembering the pain You endured when Your Son went to the cross for me. Thank You for reminding me that it's only for a little while. I declare that I'm coming out pure gold on the other side of this. And all the glory will go to You forever. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Daddy's House

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Today's Passage: Psalm 122
Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:6

Imagine you had a father who was one of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world. Everytime you went to visit him, he always had expensive gifts to give away. It didn't matter how many times you went. All he required you to do each time was tell him how awesome he is, and declare your love for him. How many of us would give anything to be in your dad's presence? No sacrifice would be too great to make it there. And when you got there, you wouldn't hesitate to tell him exactly what he needed to hear.

Well, you don't need to imagine any more. Your Father is THE wealthiest and most powerful Being in the Universe. And everytime you go to His house (which you are welcome to do whenever you desire to), He's prepared priceless gifts for you that no earthly money can buy -- peace, love, joy, His grace, and forgiveness for the times when you fall short. But that's not all. In His presence, He gives you a glimpse of every promise you've been given about your destiny, as well as the things you desire to have on this earth. All He wants is your devotion, and your declaration that nothing will ever separate you from Him.

This morning, as you prepare to go to Daddy's house, will you make a commitment to give Him the best praise you can? Would you go with your offering of thanksgiving, which is the fruit of your lips? Meditate on the benefits of serving Him -- blessings you've received just from being associated with the God we serve. Praise Him out of the gratitude of knowing that every promise He makes, He keeps. And then watch Him shower His awesome love on not just you, but every other one of His children who come with the same mindset to touch and be touched by Him.

Are you excited yet? I'm filled with anticipation of what will happen as we give our all just to be in Daddy's house.

Prayer: Daddy, praise waits for You in Zion. You have shown Yourself faithful to me and my family. Before I even realized I needed You, You were always there because of Your great love for me. May no sacrifice ever be too great for me to make, because the prize is seeing You in all Your glory and majesty. I love You forever. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Daddy's Coming!!!

Today's Passage: Psalms 50:15
Memory Verse: Psalms 86:7

Saturday, May 15, 2010

Hello, Friends & Lifers! I was in the last meeting of the day yesterday when my cell phone began to vibrate. It was my son needing a ride home from school....again! This had happened time and time again. As I am never comfortable with this situation, he's always totally calm about it. I eventually asked how he could remain so calm, and his reply was "cause I can just call my dad."

I am thankful for the assurance that we can call on our Father whenever we need Him. There is no circumstance too big or small for Him. You can be certain that He'll always be there. When my son spoke those words, his faith in me seemed to give me strength. It was as though his confidence gave credibility to my role as a father. How do you think our faith makes God feel? Our confidence in Him makes Him want to move mountains for us. We should be like the kids on the playground back in the day when they would make up elaborate stories about what their "dads" could do. The one kid would say "My daddy can build a skyscraper with a pencil and a jar of jelly." The other kid would say "my daddy can leap over 17 buses with a ton of bricks tied to his legs." As children of the Most High, we don't even have to exaggerate. Our Daddy can part seas down the middle and let us walk through them on dry land. Our Daddy can stop storms and raise the dead. He can make bread without an oven and throw it from the sky.

How confident are you in your Father? When trouble comes, who do you run to? Psalms 50:15 says "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." God wants us to run to Him when things aren't right. When we run to Him, our faith in Him brings Him glory and credibility. Be confident in the fact that He's waiting to come to your rescue. No worries. If you're ever in a situation just do what my son did.....call your Daddy.

Prayer:
I need You Jesus, to come to my rescue. Where else can I go? There's no other Name by which I am saved; capture me with grace. I will follow You...in Jesus' name, Amen!

He Is Life!!!

Today's Passage: John 11:25
Memory Verse: John 6:35

Friday, May 14, 2010

Blessings, Friends & Lifers! Ask yourself this question: What is life? Is life a series of plans joined together by time, or is it consecutive breaths taken over a few years? What is life? The dictionary defines life as "the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects". It also says it's a period of "animate" existence. What? So now we're cartoons? Just kidding! These ambiguous descriptions are distinct indicators that man, in his natural mind, is powerless in defining such a phenomenon.

Let's help them out, Body of Christ. Let's let them know that life is not a "what", it's a "who". Jesus said to Martha, just before He brought her brother back from the dead, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, will live." So we learn that in order to truly have life, we must truly have Jesus. I mean, Paul summed it up best when he said "to live is Christ". Existing without Jesus is day after day going from one failure to the other. Basically, you're just breathing to death. Sin is your boss and guilt is its son. Death is the only way out with torment leading the way.

So my friends, God says He has set before you death and life, blessings and curses. What do you choose? What's your existence from now on going to be like? You can choose to be resurrected over and over through grace and love, or be tormented slowly through sin and death. Go ahead...it's YOUR life!

Prayer:
Jesus, You are my life and my hope. My faith is in You alone. Let me always walk in Your ways because that's where "life" is. You are life. So I submit myself to You...in Jesus' name. Amen

Lazarus, Come Forth!

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Today's Passage: Ezekiel 37:1-14
Memory Verse: John 11:43-44

Since the beginning of this year, there has been a promise of God's release of His anointing and favor on our lives through giftings and talents. I believe He's laying the foundation that will prepare us for the Master's use by making sure we're growing in our relationship with Him. During praise and worship this past week, a word was released through our senior pastors to begin bearing down and pushing the destiny that's been placed on the inside of each of us. So for many, this was confirmation that it's only a matter of time before that destiny will be manifested in our lives.

But for others, the idea of walking in your calling or doing what we were put on this earth to do might as well be nonexistent. Due to earthly distractions, trials and disappontments, your dreams begin to fade away. Pretty soon it's as if they were never there in the first place. Today, the word of the Lord is coming to you through the prophet Ezekiel. God told him to prophesy to the bones -- a heap of skeletal remains with no apparent purpose except to be a reminder of how nothing on this earth lasts forever. So he spoke God's words, not his own. He told the bones to live, but he didn't stop there. Even though they came together, there was still no sign of the essence of God. So he prophesied that the breath of God come from the four winds, so the bones may live.

Today, I speak to the dry bones in your life. I say that no matter how long those dreams have been in the ground, may the breath of God revive them again. Lazarus, I speak with the same authority Jesus used. I say, "Come forth!" Every promise that God has made to you shall live and bring God glory in the name of Jesus. Rise up, man of God! Arise, daughter of Zion! The Lord of the Harvest has need of you. I declare that the breath of God's anointing is coming from the four winds to blow restoration into every part of your life.

For those of you who've already experienced God's life-changing anointing, speak this into the life of someone else. Don't sit by another day while the dreams of friends and loved ones die slowly. God has given us the authority to speak things that are not as though they already were. The end-time harvest is here; can all these dry bones live again? Can all those Lazaruses come out of the grave and accomplish the will of God? Let's loose them with our mouths and our faith, and release them -- and ultimately ourselves --to be everything God has destined us to be.

Prayer: Father, accomplish Your word in the lives of those around us. Let all these dry bones live again. May we never be moved by what we see, but continue to declare life into loved ones, families, churches, neighborhoods, and this nation. For Your glory alone, we pray this in Jesus' mighty name, Amen.

H.U.M.P. Day!!!

Wednesday May 12, 2010

Blessings Friends & Lifers! It's H.U.M.P. Day! For those of you who are new to our devotional, please let me explain. H.U.M.P. is an acronym for His Ultimate Mission & Purpose. Meaning, H.U.M.P. Day is the day we make an effort to actively show the love of Jesus in our community. Since our inaugural HUMP Day, people have been blessed with free meals, clothes, and prayer for specific needs. We pray this day will take the world by storm. It's our desire that people all over the world will develop a passion to show a dying world the love of Christ.

Your HUMP Day mission today is hospitality. Invite a neighbor to your home for dinner or a cup of coffee. You may even prepare a finger food of some sort and go to theirs if you want. Once you're there, establish a prayer focus for each other's home. Share creative ideas regarding how you can help your street; one house at a time. If you put forth the initial effort, the Holy Spirit will open your eyes to opportunities for ministry you never thought existed.

Prayer:
Lord, as I go about my day today, let me find ways to share Your love. Although I have areas of need in my own life, use me to minister from out of those places in order to bring a mighty harvest into my life. I want You to strategically place me where You want Your love to be shown. I position myself for Your use; in Jesus' name...Amen!

God's Perfect Law

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Today's Passage: Psalm 19: 1-11
Memory Verses: Ps. 19:7-8; 11

It started long ago as a simple debate over the separation of church and state. Later, this debate turned into a battle concerning openly praying in schools. We know how that ended. Now it's a war over removing God's Name completely off of official objects such as American money and the front of courthouses. This makes you wonder: why are some people trying so hard to erase the mention or even the notion of God from our society?

Today's passage gives us some idea why. God is very real, and His Presence cannot be denied. All you have to do is step outside of wherever you live, and you will see (and hear) creation screaming, "God is here! He did this!" And there, my brothers and sisters, is where the heart of the matter lies. You see, if you acknowledged that God is real, you couldn't just let it go at that. You'd have to acknowledge that He created everything just for us, since we're the only part of creation with a will. And if you acknowledged that, you'd be obligated to acknowledge our need for God's law. After all, because our parents love us and sacrifice everything for us, they require us to acknowledge, love, and obey us in return, right?

So for those of us who've already accepted and live our lives by the fact that God exists, this is not an issue. Not only are we grateful for God's presence in our lives, but we also know that, like our parents, His law is there to cover and conform us to His image. I'm so glad today that I serve a God Who loves me enough to come down to my level just to save me, but doesn't stoop to my level once I become saved. I must then spend the rest of my life doing things His way, which only works out for my good. I mean, look at what I get just for being obedient to the law of God. I get to walk in wisdom, joy, and peace in knowing that He's gone before me and seen the traps the enemy has set for me, then tells me where to step so no weapon formed against me can prosper.

May we never allow the unsaved (wayward children who are simply waiting for a glimpse into the love of God) to influence us into feeling resentful about having to follow God's law. Just like we would tell our kids about acquaintances who don't obey their parents, I admonish you to stay as far away as possible from anyone who refuses to see what a blessing it is to have God's law. If you do this, you will find like David did that in keeping it there is GREAT reward. You can't ask for more than that.

Prayer: Father, in these days when so many would throw away your law, I am so grateful that You've used it to lay the foundation for me to be safe and free. I'll never forget the sacrifice You paid, so my obedience is my reasonable service to You. I'm Yours forever and always. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Our Very Present Help

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Today's Passage: Psalm 3
Memory Verse: Ps. 3:1-3

Okay, Saints. It's another Monday. The glory cloud seems to have lifted after Sunday's awesome time in the presence of the Lord. Wanna know why it seems that way? By the enemy's design. I'm positive it's not just me, because from week to week, there is a rapidly growing mountain of issues and problems -- finances, health, relationships, or just an inability to find one's place in the world. No mater how much we grow in our walk with God, there's always something.

So today, I just wanted to encourage you by first of all reminding you that YOU ARE NOT ALONE in this battle. Just take a look at David. In this passage, He's faced with the problem of having his own son for a mortal enemy-- one who was about to turn his subjects against him. For two chapters, I tried to see how it was possible for God to allow Absalom to have even the littlest bit of success that he did have before he met his end. The answer He showed me leads to what God wants you and me to get out of this lesson.

I think what God wants us to learn from seasons when the enemy's attacks are increasing against us is not that He wants us to ignore them, or will them to magically disappear. He wants us to see Him and His ability to shield us WHILE we're in the midst of the battle. Did you ever notice the way soldiers continue to advance towards their enemies when they have their shields in place? As long as the shield covers them, they can find strength to keep fighting. David describes God as his shield, his glory, and the lifter of his head. This lets me know that when the attacks get stronger against us, the temptation to admit defeat arises. But if you will only remain in the secret place, in the shadow of the Almighty, His glory will surround you. Lifting your head again has to do with you realizing once more that you're His, your life is in His hands, and no weapon formed against you will ever be able to overcome you as long as you remain in covenant with Him.

When you see trouble arising -- as it so often tends to do on our way to our promise, let your trust in Him arise as well, and watch Him give you His peace and freedom from fear. For He is and always be our very present Help.

Prayer: Father, You have always been faithful to shield me at my most needy moments when the enemy seems to be winning. In You I can find hope for a bleak situation, joy, and victory. I acknowledge You as my answer to every question, and because of You I will not be afraid of ten thousand enemies. I'll rest in Your love and plans for me. Thank You for reminding me that You are all I need. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Today's Passage: Leviticus 19:3
Memory Verse: Same

Sunday May 9, 2010

M is for the many things you've given me.
O is for outstanding love and care.
T is for the thankless acts of service.
H is for the happiness you inspire.
E is for the excellence you bring.
R is for the rock you've always been.

May God continuously bless you Mom. We will always honor you, not only because you deserve it, but because it's God's mandate for us. As we know, God is explicit in His instructions that the children honor their mothers, but back in Leviticus 19:3, He says "every one of you shall "revere" his mother, and keep My Sabbaths; I am the Lord your God." To revere is to regard with respect, tinged in awe. Which means our behavior should always be respectful toward our mothers. I know there are occasions where you're not in agreement with her, but you have to "respectfully" disagree. This principle was as important to God as His Sabbath. Incidently, maybe your childhood was tough. Maybe your Mom caused you pain in some area. If so, I pray you will one day find the strength to forgive her. Please understand you'll never be able to find peace unil you do.

As you start your day Mom, I challenge you to walk in the grace and anointing only given to a woman who has earned the title: Mother. Go to your choice house of worship and allow the Spirit of the Lord to cover you. Know that your latter days are going to be so much better than your past. Which means it's time for you to take that long deserved break and be appreciated. May the joy of the Lord surround you today, and everyday. This we pray in Jesus' name...Amen! Happy Mother's Day!

Behold Your Mother!!!

Today's Passage: John 19:26-27
Memory Verse: Same

Saturday May 8, 2010

Blessings, Friends & Lifers! I was five years young when my biological mother went home to be with the Lord. To this day, I have memories of what seemed like hundreds of people being in the house. Family members would sit me on their laps and play with me, while others watched my brother as he sat on the porch. Later that night, my grandmother told me to say my prayers and go to bed. "Say my prayers!" I thought. What do I say? All I could manage was "God, who's gonna be my mother now?" I didn't know that He had already provided.

For those of you who haven't had the experience of having a doctor tell you you're pregnant, or maybe you've never had the opportunity to feel a child growing in YOUR womb, I want to thank you for every child, like me, you either raised yourself, or helped someone to raise. Let's look back to Jesus' last moments of life. As He hung on the cross, there stood before Him Mary (His mother), and John. Jesus said to Mary: "Woman, behold your son." Then He said to John, "Behold your mother." The bible then says that from that hour, John took her to his home. I can't fathom the pain felt by a woman who's lost a child, or wasn't able to have one at all. What I can imagine, however, is a loving God who can take disappointment and turn it into triumph. So this Mother's Day is for you. Thank you for YOUR sacrifices Momma. You have our respect, our love, and our gratitude. Personally, if it weren't for my grandmother, I don't know where I'd be. Going back to the day of the funeral, she had not only buried her daughter, she inherited two extra mouths to feed on very meager earnings. But with her head held high, she took my brother and me in, loved us, raised us, and pointed us toward the cross. I can't remember a day I wanted for anything, or one hungry night. The floor creaked and the roof leaked, but she made our house a home. If you're reading this and you can relate, Happy Mother's Day to you! Happy Mother's Day Grandma, Auntie, Sister, Step-Mother, Adoptive Mother, and Foster Mom. You deserve it. And You also deserve every blessing that comes with it.

Prayer:
Words can't adequately express the gratitude I have for the "mother" You chose for me God. I pray I've honored her as Your Word says. Bless her today. Wrap Your loving arms around her. Tell her You're pleased with her sacrifice. I give You praise for her....and for You, in Jesus' name. Amen.

A Promise Yet to Be Birthed

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Today's Passage: Genesis 18:15
Memory Verse: Gen. 18:14

This particular devotional is dedicated to women who've been waiting a long time for a special promise from God. You may find yourself without a child for years; or maybe, you've had your children, but they're all grown and gone now, and you find yourself in a place where you're wondering whether there's any more purpose to your life.

Perhaps you've even had to wait so long that, like Sarah, you've begun to doubt that God can do anything about your situation. But hear the Word of the Lord today: "IS THERE ANYTHING TOO HARD FOR ME? BEFORE I FORMED YOU IN THE WOMB, I KNEW YOU, AND ORDAINED YOU A PROPHET TO THE NATIONS." To you Sarahs, God is saying, "At the appointed time, I will come to you, and according to your proper season in life, you SHALL give birth."

We want to remind you that all things are made perfect in His time. Rather than laughing at the impossibility or unlikely nature of your dream coming to fruition, PREPARE FOR BIRTH. Can dead things live again? Yes, for the One Who raised His Son from the dead has the power to bring to life dreams that have lain dormant for so long. And not only that -- know that this baby you're about to give birth to (whether spiritual or natural, God alone knows)is the answer to prayers prayed by you, your family, and even the generation God is calling you to minister to.

So receive the confirmation today that the promise that seems not to be coming IS on the way. If you asked me why God waited so long for Abraham and Sarah to see the fulfillment of the promise, I'd say He loves to make a grand entrance, and is so good at guaranteeing that all the glory will go to Him and not ourselves. Pray with us today that you'll be ready to carry the weight of such a promise to full term, so that everything God intended for you to accomplish can come to pass. For with God, NOTHING shall be impossible.

Prayer: Father, I pray for all the expectant mothers who have a promise from You that something greater than themselves will be birthed in their lives. May they be flooded with the confirmation of that promise, and begin to prepare for birthing by positioning themselves for something great. Then, Father, may we all shine as the living testimonies of Your endless favor and grace in these last days. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Mothers Of Destiny III

Today's Passage: Luke 2
Memory Verse: Same

Thursday May 6, 2010

Hello Friends & Lifers! We again send prayers of healing for Ms. Tina and the Miller family....

Do you remember the moment you knew you'd become a mother? Do you remember what you thought, and how you felt? How about those who became pregnant by unconventional means? Was there fear and embarrassment from the reality that people would soon find out? What did you do? You did what any good mother would do. You did what Mary did....

Mary got pregnant at a young age. And worse than that, her fiance' was not the father. She was faced with having to deal with the ridicule of her people. The pressure to go through with her pregnancy became more trying with each passing day. But she knew there was something special about her baby. She knew the life growing inside her had a purpose and destiny. We're thankful that you realized there was something special about us Mom. You made a stand in the midst of fear and confusion, and we are the result of your courage. No matter how far we fall, you still see the best in us; just like Mary did with Jesus. Not only that, Mary had to give birth to Jesus in an unorthodox environment. Because a decree called for everyone in the land to be registered, Joseph and Mary had to go into Bethlehem. During that time, Mary went into labor. The city was so crowded they were forced to deliver Jesus in a stable. Just because your baby didn't come the way you dreamed or hoped, you still knew he/she was special. You knew your child was more than just a baby: a gift from God.

Today, I'd like you to think back on the conditions in which each of your children were born. Try to remember every detail. Try to remember times of fear and times of comfort. Then, try to remember the moment you knew God had intervened on your behalf. Now that you're able to look back on it; it makes you realize He was there all along. I'm sure there were some sleepless nights, moments of loneliness, and mixed emotions; but God orchestrated it to get you to where you are today. Like Mary, you were His chosen. He had His hand on you then, and therefore, He has His hand on us now...Thanks Mom! You're the best!

Prayer:
Thank You, Lord, for our mothers. They are truly gifts to us. Let all mothers submit their hearts and lives to You, God. Let them know they didn't become mothers because they got pregnant; they became mothers because You chose them to be. So cover them in Your awesome love. In Jesus' name....Amen!

Mothers Of Destiny II

Today's Passage: 2 Kings 4
Memory Verse: Same

Wednesday May 5, 2010

Let's begin today's devotional with prayer for our own Sister Tina Miller. Get well soon Ms. Tina. We all love and miss you big time...God bless you!

Blessings Friends & Lifers! Mothers, as we all know, are special people. But not every woman deserves the title. I mean, the ability to give birth doesn't make you a mother. So often I see people raising children that aren't biologically theirs because the woman (and man) responsible for them is neglecting them. Then there are the true mothers. Mothers provide. Mothers sacrifice. Mothers protect. And mothers make room.

The foundation of true motherhood is Godly womanhood. The women I referenced earlier lack the ability to be a mother because they never first became women. The mother in our devotional today started by being a Godly woman. She, knowing the prophet Elisha was passing by, convinced her husband to make a room for him in their home (he passed through rather frequently). She knew early on that her purpose wasn't found in having a husband and a big house. Her purpose was found in using her resources for the kingdom of God. How do you know your life has purpose? Are you constantly wrapped up in things that only concern you, or do you have the spirit and character of a mother? Mothers are literally women with purpose. They give their lives making life happen for others. They often give their last to provide someone else's only. Anyway, after giving sacrificially to Elisha, Elisha was moved to bless her with what she always wanted: a child. She made room for God, and in turn, God elevated her status. He literally changed her condition.

To every mother who knows the sacrifice it takes to hold a family together, we bless you. You are the reason God smiles upon us. Your very existence brings faith into any situation, and your prayers have covered us from birth. May your sons and daughters make you swell with pride. And may God continue to bless and keep you. Thanks for making the little much and the hurt bearable. Thank you for being the first examples of faith in our lives. We love you forever.

Prayer: Father, we thank You for the mothers You have placed in our lives. We lift up every one of them today -- from the ones who are sacrificing their all to make ends meet, to the ones whom You've already shown Your favor by providing. May they continue to be Your shining examples of love on this earth. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Mothers of Destiny

Today's Passage: Exodus 1:15-22; 2:1-10
Memory Verses: Ex. 1:17; 2:3

The more I read about the lives of people in the Bible, the more I get the feeling that I'm in the middle of an action-packed adventure movie. But each account fills me with faith nevertheless. Today's story is no different. Imagine yourself as a midwife in ancient Egypt, having just been given a command from the Pharaoh to snuff out the lives of all the male babies born to the Israelites. Under a heavy penalty of severe punishment by the highest earthly power in the land, what do you think would have possessed these women to disobey, choosing instead to keep the male babies alive?

The answer, my sisters and brothers, is destiny. These women had to have been filled with a holy reverence for God's creation, which caused them to obey Him rather than man. In fact, Scripture tells us that these women feared God, and therefore refused to do as the King commanded. The commandments had not even been written yet, but they knew that there was something special about their people, the Israelites, which had to be preserved.

Fast-forward to a few scenes later in this story where a Hebrew woman gives birth to a son. She is able to hide him, and later on places him in the Nile River, propelled by the same desire to preserve the life of this precious Hebrew child. You know the rest. The baby is discovered by none other than the daughter of Pharaoh herself, and adopted as her own son -- but not before being nursed by his very own mother! This baby, who miraculously escapes Pharaoh's wrath while growing up in his palace, is Moses, the deliverer of the children of Israel. How can events so seemingly random be so connected?

Beloved, our God is a God of destiny. Every single event in the lives of His children is pre-ordained to produce the greatest good. Be not deceived, for God sees the end of a thing before its beginning is even established. God knew He would need a deliverer for His people long before Joseph's brothers even betrayed Him and sent him in the direction of Egypt. So how could He trust His plan into the hands of a few lowly women? He placed inside each one of us a deep desire to obey Him, even in the face of great persecution.

Be assured today that your babies are children of destiny. God has already seen a need years into the future that He has chosen each one of them to meet. If you're not sure I'm right, you may want to ask a worship leader by the name of Israel Houghton. He'll be happy to tell you that his mother was disowned by her parents because she refused to abort him. Consequently, she raised him, scared and alone. But oh, how God watched over them! He knew the world would need to be brought to its knees through true worship to Him in the 21st century. Whatever you're facing, know that it's included in the plan. For you are right where God wants you: on the path to destiny.

Prayer: Father, I praise You for orchestrating our steps to fall in with Your plan to bring answers to this troubled world. I pray for every Mother who reads this message, even some who may be second-guessing their decision to carry their babies or raise them. Give them Your Grace to stand up against the persecution around them, and obey You rather than man. Then, Lord, use us all to bring forth Your end-time harvest on this earth. In Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen!

A Mother's Love

Today's Passage: 1 Samuel 1
Memory Verses: 1 Sam. 1:11

This week, as we prepare to celebrate Mother's Day, we'll be studying the lives of mothers in the Bible. One example of a mother's strong love is found in today's passage, in the life of a woman named Hannah. As most of you may already know, Hannah was a barren woman who petitioned God for a child. What amazes me about Hannah is not so much that she received her heart's desire (of course, our God is a prayer-answering God). I'd like to think that God's heart was drawn to the request she made.

Imagine desiring something for a long time, then promising to give it up if you could only have it. You and I probably have been known to make a promise or two if we thought that would influence God to give it to us. But Hannah did not make an idle promise; the moment she bore that child (who became Samuel, one of Israel's most powerful judges), she set about doing exactly as she had promised God she would. She gave him to the priests at the temple to be raised as God's servant all the days of his life.

Now is the moment of truth for me. I find myself wondering how it's possible to want a child so badly, then just give him up forever -- especially after nursing him. Any woman who's had a child knows how deep the maternal bond becomes between a mother and her child after spending countless hours together. How did she do it? Was there some prophecy God gave her about how great her son would be that we don't read about in the Bible? How was she able to just walk away from him? Would I have been able to do this? Would I even have made a promise of this nature to God?

What drew God's attention when Hannah prayed was her willingness to give up that which meant the most to her as a sacrifice to the One Who made her dream possible. Isn't that what serving God is all about? She realized that her life was not her own, and somehow knew that her child's future in God's hands would end in a much greater way than it could ever be in the hands of her or her husband. So what lesson do we learn from this story? Unselfishly let God have your child/children. What He can do with their lives will totally exceed what you can ever do. For He knows the plans He has for them. As you pray for your children, don't be afraid to declare that they stay in His perfect will. It's one prayer you'll never regret you prayed.

Prayer: Father, You've shown me yet another example of how in order to receive something from You, I must give something that's a sacrifice.I give You my children today. May they fulfill every plan You intended for them. Help me recognize their anointing and not hold them back from You in a selfish attempt to keep them for myself. Use them for Your glory forever. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Big Day Today!!!

Today's Passage: Esther 2:1-17
Memory Verse: Jeremiah 1:5

Sunday May 2, 2010

Hello Friends & Lifers! Today is an important day. Today is the day you get your appointment with the King. Are you prepared? What will do? Better yet, what will you say? You can't just blow it off. It's not like it's your uncle or something, it's GOD! We have to plan for this big day.

In preparing for a King, you have to first know that you've been chosen. Jeremiah 1:5 says "before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified (preserved) you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." My friend, God has chosen you and set you aside to do great things. He doesn't create anything without a purpose. You are His chosen. Second, after realizing you've been chosen, you must find ways to please Him. Worship, praise, dance, sing, fast, and pray; do any and everything you know will bring glory to His name. If you do this, you will be in position to earn His favor (presence). Understand that God's favor comes with great benefits. You get surrounded by the best people, and you get to spend time in the most beautiful places. When you're ready, you'll get to come into the presence of the King and ask for anything you want. And if your heart and motives are pure, He'll even offer you a crown.

So you can't approach this day like it's just another day. This is the day you get to go before the King. You want my advice? Okay. Be humble. He may be in the image of a loving Father or Friend, but He's still your King so worship Him. Be holy. Don't expose Him to carnality. Clean yourself up before you get to Him. Trust me, He'll be able to see through the artificial stuff. Lastly, bring Him an offering (praise, worship, obedience). He loves knowing He's important to you. The challenge today is to ready yourself for an appointment with the King.

Prayer:
Make me ready to be in Your holy presence Father. Prepare me for Your awesome power and love. You are my dwelling place and my affections are Yours. I look forward to being with You today and everyday, in Jesus' name...Amen!
