The Whole Armor

Today's Passage: Ephesians 6:10-20
Memory Verse: Ephesians 6:11

I begin this devotional today in hysterical laughter.  Someone told me they were living a hard life, and they should get saved because I have it easy.  Are you serious?  They said they felt like their enemies were always after them, and their life required them to make sacrifice after sacrifice.  Really though?  So, I told him who ever had the toughest life would buy the day's lunch.

Okay, I know we're supposed to make Christian life smell like roses when we're describing it to the world.  We're supposed to make them believe God is a little genie on our shoulder that grants all of our wishes.  Our lives never have trouble, and the only problem we have is agreeing on which denomination has it right.  WRONG!  This life, for the most part, is NOT for the weak.  Listen, our daily walk requires more armor than King Arthur and his whole court.  Why?  Well, because our enemy NEVER lets up.  He's always firing darts at us.  And when he's not doing that, he's accusing us of stuff we may actually be doing.  Our scripture for the day advises us to be strong and, oh, put on our armor.  Armor?  What in Heavens name do we need armor for?  God says to stand against the wiles of the devil.  A wile is a trick or device meant to fool, trap, or entice.  Which means every moment we live, the devil is out to get us.  Dude, even gangsters and thugs take a day or two off.  Christians are under attack all the time.  Some of us even endure attack while we sleep.  So, what keeps us alive you ask?  Truth, righteousness, and peace keeps us alive.  Also, faith, salvation, and the Word of God keeps us alive.

In conclusion, I think it's so cool that we have to wear armor for a fixed fight.  I thank God for loving us enough to spare no expense.  He makes sure to cover all the details.  He knows we're going to win, but He doesn't even want us to get hit.  So, put on the whole armor of God so you can stand in the evil day.  Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Don't be afraid.  The God that is within you is greater than the enemy that's after you.  No sweat right?   Well, if it's any consolation, I had a great lunch.

Prayer: Thank You, Father for loving us so much.  I realize if I stay in Your care, there's nothing that can harm me.  No matter what the enemy does, he has to submit to Your authority.  There's never a need to be afraid of him.  So, I will rest in You for the rest of my days, in Jesus' name. Amen.
