Freedom: It's Still Worth Fighting For

Today's Passage: Ephesians 7: 1-10
Memory Verse(s): Eph. 7: 7-8

One of the most important spiritual blessings we enjoy is our redemption through the blood of Christ.  We didn't deserve it and didn't even want it when we were walking in darkness.  But because of His awesome way of knowing what was best for us and providing a way of escape since we couldn't, we now enjoy freedom from the enemy's snare.

C. S. Lewis, the writer of the classic novel The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, depicts this blessing of freedom through the character of Edmund, who disobeys the warning to stay away from the White Witch.  He not only follows her, but also accepts her food in exchange for betraying his family.  And just like the enemy does, the White Witch betrays him as well and puts him in prison, refusing to set him free until the ransom of blood can be paid for his treachery.

But the mighty Lion, who embodies the person of Christ, steps in and takes the penalty of death in Edmund's place, taking upon himself all the wrath of the wicked White Witch.  And Edmund is set free!  It's this same sacrificial existence that people like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King lived, not counting their lives worth living until others were walking in freedom the way God ordained it.  It's what we are called to do on a daily basis, standing up for the justice that people around us are hungry for.

God is calling us to be the MLK's of our time, banging on the doors of the oppressor Pharaoh, Satan himself, until he lets our people go.  We must not stop praying, nor hoping or believing that one day they walk free like we have.  We honor Dr. King and all other freedom fighters.  Freedom will always be worth fighting for.

Prayer: Father, You loved us so much that You were willing to watch Your Son become subjected to the shame and pain of which He was never guilty.  Thank You for my redemption.  May I spend the rest of my life walking in that freedom, and fighting for the freedom of others.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.
