Today's Passage: Malachi 3:8-12
Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:26
What is GOOD? What would be considered a good thing, or a good person? I often think good is the absence of doing wrong. I mean, people who label themselves as good, use deeds as the measuring stick. Well, we know NOT doing something wrong may be considered a good quality, but what about the omission of doing the RIGHT thing? For instance, you may see a neigbor or a co-worker in a painful situation. Maybe they're going through a divorce, or a financial downturn. Here you have the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with them. You know it's within you to be an encouraging voice, but you don't take the opportunity. Now you didn't do anything wrong, but you ommitted the right thing. So, are you GOOD? Think about Robin Hood. We've all heard the stories and/or seen the movies (there's only been 100's of them). Robin Hood was made famous by robbing the rich and giving what he had stolen to the poor. Is he good? I guess it depends on what tax bracket you're in. Let's look at it through God's eyes.
God owns the cattle of a thousand hills. Which means by natural standards, He's rich. He has everything one could ever want. He doesn't need money, or property, or a job to maintain His economic status. Yet, He requires us to "cheerfully" bring 10% of our income to His kingdom. He even says refusing to do so is "robbing" Him. Well, the truth is, it is robbing Him. It's robbing Him because the harvest we get comes from the seed in His ground ("the Earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof"). Also, it robs Him of the love and devotion (there's our word again Td Nation) He deserves. A statement was made in one of our meetings that we should take our tithes and designate them to feeding the hungry instead of bringing them to the church. What a great concept. As Christians, feeding the hungry should always be a priority. But we can't be Robin Hood folks. We can't rob God to do it. God said "Bring ALL the tithes into the storehouse, so that it can be meat in My house". Meaning, feeding the poor, clothing the naked, housing the homeless, and caring for the broken, would all be easily done IF GOD'S STOREHOUSE WERE FULL! When His storehouse is empty ministry is more difficult. Now you might read this and say "but I'm a tither so I'm okay". Which is true to some degree. But we're the body. We are one. God said "You are cursed with a curse, because you have robbed Me, EVEN THE WHOLE NATION". So, even if one person (or member of the body) decides God's not worthy of the tithe, all of Td Nation is cursed because we're short of the ALL He is requiring. So if we rob God to feed the hungry is that GOOD? I don't think so. But you ask God for yourself.....
Our assignment is to strive to become habitual tithers. That's right, habitual. A habit is something you don't have to put thought into doing. You just do it. The need to do it is so strong, you feel uneasy if you don't. You don't have to be persuaded, nor do you need to be reminded. You wake up everyday looking forward to it. Yeah, like an addict. Also, pray that the revelation of God's love comes to those who aren't tithers. We can't judge them. We can only let them see the manifestation of God's favor on a life TOTALLY devoted to Him. Let's serve notice to the devourer this is not Sherwood Forest. And we are not a band of thieves or robbers. This is the Kingdom of the Most High. And we are His sons and daughters. Prosperity lives here. Obedience lives here. Favor lives here. And blessing lives here, because HIS STOREHOUSE IS FULL!

Thanks for Our Kids!!!!!

Today's Passage: Psalm 103
Memory Verse: Ps. 103: 10 and 17
For millions of women, the miracle of childbirth happens everyday. But perhaps millions more have never carried a baby to full term. They may never know the thrill of feeling a baby grow inside them, nor will they feel the discomfort of the birthing process. And so I'd like to dedicate this blog to giving thanks for my children.
I've been blessed to accomplish a lot of things in my life, but absolutely nothing apart from giving my life to Christ comes close to being compared to having a child. One minute, there is no other evidence of this tiny life inside of you than what you've been told by the doctor. The next minute, you start feeling this giddy, indescribable movement inside you. The only thing I can compare it to is driving down a steep hill at 60 miles per hour. Now am I saying it always feels good? Of course not.
But then that moment comes when you're holding your baby, and every pain you feel before--and after-- becomes totally insignificant. What's even more amazing is that I was given this opportunity three times, when I am the last person who would deserve to carry a baby. The more my children grow, the more I understand how much of a part of God's kingdom plan it is to have a child. When I see them say or do anything that has to do with God, I see in them everything I didn't know I was at that age.
I am so grateful to the Father for not rewarding me according to my iniquities. I renew my commitment to being the best mother I can be, no matter how tiring it may get. My children are the greatest hope I have for the future, and raising them to serve God is the most important calling of my life. I want to live each day being the godly example to my daughter that my mother was to me, and I praise God everyday that my sons have their father to look up to when they have questions about the world we live in. For that, I will forever be thankful.
Prayer: Father, as long as I live I'll never forget the promises You've fulfilled in my children. I thank You for entrusting them to us. May we take advantage of every opportunity to love, cover and teach them about You. And may their children's children be forever blessed in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Something Praiseworthy

Today's Passage: Ephesians 1:1-14
Memory Verse: Eph. 1:11-12
For believers who love God and enjoy a fulfilling relationship with Him, we should be experts on giving thanks to the Lord, right? So how come we have to be reminded over and over in the Word to rejoice, think on praiseworthy things, and always praise? Because, to be honest, it's extremely easy to forget all the awesome things God has done for us. Most times, it's sad to admit that we're too busy remembering the things that make us sad to be in a praising mood.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, some of the next few blogs will be dedicated to remembering how mighty and faithful our God is. Today, I'm thankful for the specific plan and purpose He has for each of us who call ourselves His children. I remember back in 1991, when I finally accepted Christ as my Savior. I didn't get everything right, but I had a heart to serve Him completely.
That being the case, I had always had the desire to sing. As a result, one of my sisters, who resided in the States at that time, sent me an application packet for a school in Florida. Now, mind you, she lived in New Jersey, so what are the chances that she would pick the particular school that she did? She heard the concert choir from that school, Bethune- Cookman, and it was confirmed in her spirit that I needed to go there. So I filled out the paperwork, got the necessary documents, and was accepted there for the Fall semester of 1993.
The rest, as they say, is history. I will never tire of telling how God brought me into the exact choir where a young man by the name of Christon Lee introduced himself to me as the man who would be my husband. Of course, I didn't know it at the time, but I was set up by God to meet the man of my dreams. How am I so sure God ordained it? Because we are now ministering together in the Word, music, and the field of education. For the past 16 years, the Lord has blessed us to spend time growing in love with Him and one another. He has given us four beautiful children, and a life that I wouldn't trade for anything in tins world. Now THAT is something praiseworthy.
Prayer: Father, I am so grateful that You chose my life before the foundation of the world. I praise You for my husband, my babies, and the ministry You have called me to. May my life reflect everything You intended when You placed me in my mother's womb. I'll forever praise You for my destiny. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Sunday Prayer
Sunday November 14, 2010
"Hallelujah! Praise God from Heaven, praise Him from the mountaintops; praise Him all you His angels, praise Him all you His warriors. Praise Him sun and moon, prasie Him you morning stars; praise Him high Heaven, prasie Him heavenly rain clouds; praise, oh let them praise the name of God--He spoke the Word, and there they were"! (Psalms 148:1-5)
Father God, our praise is truly Yours. You are so worthy of every hallelujah we offer You. No situation or circumstance will distract us from this great opoortunity. So if we're high atop the mountains; You are worthy. If we're trapped low in the valley; You are worthy. Arise oh God, and let Your enemies be scattered. The sound of appreciation and adoration will fill Your house today. We want more, so much more of You today. Yesterday was good, but today requires something different. Rain on us today Lord, God. Rain on our hearts so we can see more clearly. Rain on Your Word so we can never be the same again. As we pursue You today, meet us with mercy and love; in Jesus' name. Amen....

So clean house! Make a clean sweep of malice and pretense, envy and hurtful talk (1 Peter 2).
Greetings everyone! Today our church family will be meeting to do some cleaning in and around our church. We call it our "All-Church Work Day". It's going to be a daunting task because there's so much to do. But we are well-able to accomplish it. There will be cleaning and vacuuming, painting and repairing going on all at the same time. I pray that as we come together to clean God's house naturally, He'll begin to clean ours spiritually.
As beautiful as God's sanctuaries are, if they go unkept, that beauty can quickly fade. Over time, things can just become cluttered and overused. When they do, we have to take responsibility for its upkeep. God expects us to be good stewards over what He's entrusted us with. So we have to remove old things and replace them with new things. We have to refurbish what has been overused, and we also have to repair what has been broken.
Likewise, as beautiful as our "temples" are, if they go unkept, they also can fade. Over time, our lives become cluttered with the cares of life. Because of that, we become driven by our emotions instead of our faith. Comfort is achieved by how we feel, not Who we know. Therefore, our faith becomes dusty, our hope gets broken, and our dreams need to be replaced. But we can find hope in that fact that God wants to do some 'house' cleaning of His own. He'll fix brokenness. He'll replace hopelessness with new visions and dreams, and sweep out idle thoughts and old habits. So let's clean house. It's time for a fresh, new way to praise. It's time for fresh oil and new wine to be poured out in God's house, and in His temples. Come be a part of this new beginning today.
Prayer: Father, I open myself to Your cleansing power. Holy Spirit, shine the light on every dusty area left untended to by my carelessness. Let the water of Your Word wash over every part. Revive me and consecrate me anew, so that my praise is fresh and full of sweet-smelling savor like the morning dew. I'm ready for Your refreshing. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Think On These Things
Friday, November 12th, 2010
Today's Passage: Philippians 4:4-13
Memory Verse: Phil. 4:8
Have you noticed how many commercials for depression medication there are lately? It's a vicious cycle: spend your life pursuing things that will make you happy. Get an education so you can get a good job that will buy you a house and car. Then you get those things and realize they're not enough to give you the happiness you were looking for. So you keep searching and getting, thinking maybe if you can just obtain a little more, it will fill the void in your heart.
When we become believers, we are taught that only Christ can fill that void-- and He does. The joy of knowing that Christ's sacrifice purchased our freedom from death, hell and the grave stays with most of us only long enough for us to start looking for that "more" again. Somehow we don't really believe that God, Whose ways are not ours, can satisfy our longing for the things of this world.
But take a closer look. That spirit of discontentment isn't coming from our Father. The only thing He never wants us to be satisfied with is remaining on the same spiritual level. Other than that, God knows the danger of letting our minds linger on worthless things like what we don't have, and where we want to be. It takes our minds off of our purpose in life: to please God and accomplish His will on this earth.
I finally figured out why depression is so rampant: the enemy has created a world where all people think about is themselves. The less you are consumed with self, the more value and self- worth you find. That's why God invites us to think on things that bring Him glory. He wants us to rejoice in the fact that our lives are accomplishing something for the kingdom at any given time. This is what the enemy doesn't want us to focus on. That's why we must make it our life's goal to think on only these things that our Father has established for us. That's where the true joy is.
Prayer: Father, You are my Joy. Every attempt I make to focus on Your kingdom takes me away from the enemy's grasp and closer to Your purpose for my life. I love You, need You, and look forward to encounters with You that will draw me ever closer to Your will for my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Snake Bit!
Thursday November 11, 2010
Today's Passage: Acts 28:1-6
Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 2:3
Amidst the blessing and favor we enjoy as people of God, misfortune always seems to find its way into our lives. Oftentimes, it'll even come in bunches. My mother used to say "if it ain't one thing it's another." And when I played baseball, our coach would describe a loss as being "snake bit."
What do we do when we're snake bit? How does a christian respond to loss? Naturally, we all respond to different things different ways. Some of us can shake things off with ease, while others need time to process before responding. Either way, how we respond will determine our success, or our failure. In Acts chapter 28, The Bible reveals what Paul did. It says "Once everyone was accounted for and we realized we had all made it, we learned that we were on the island of Malta. The natives went out of their way to be friendly to us. The day was rainy and cold and we were already soaked to the bone, but they built a huge bonfire and gathered us around it. Paul pitched in and helped. He had gathered up a bundle of sticks, but when he put it on the fire, a venomous snake, roused from its torpor by the heat, struck his hand and held on. Seeing the snake hanging from Paul's hand like that, the natives jumped to the conclusion that he was a murderer getting his just deserts. Paul shook the snake off into the fire, none the worse for wear. They kept expecting him to drop dead, but when it was obvious he wasn't going to, they jumped to the conclusion that he was a god!" Most of us (like me) couldn't imagine enduring such a thing. Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl. But this account is true even about christian life. The fact is, sometimes unexpected snake bites happen. And when they do, our first inclination is usually to curl up in a ball and die. We stop believing, stop dreaming, stop hoping, and stop progressing. The reason we do that is because it's what people around us expect us to do. I have a praise choir member who tragically lost her husband in a violent way several years ago (snake bit). Everyone (including me to some degree) expected her to fall apart in some fashion. I was already prepared to accept her resignation from the choir (I even feared she'd leave us entirely). But, like Paul, she shook it off. Yes, it hurt deeply; she had her moments. But she became even more determined in her faith. She started seeking God even more. And today, Yas and I consider her to be one of our personal heroes.
So let's learn to endure hardship like a good soldier. Paul shook off the thing that was set up to destroy him. Also, he did it with such faith and confidence, the people thought he was a god. I can only hope my faith will one day be demonstrated so effectively that it resembles the power of the Father. Anyway, what will you do when the devil tries to steal, kill, and destroy you? Will you roll over and die, or will you shake it off, knowing your life is in God's hands? So c'mon, let's let these things go. I know it hurts. But hanging on to it is keeping you stagnant. It's holding you back. How silly would it have looked if Paul had walked around with that snake still hanging on his hand? Very silly. Well, it looks the same way in the spirit when we allow ourselves to walk around hanging on to pain and failure. SHAKE IT OFF!
Prayer: Father I trust You to guide me into this next stage of my life. I have to release these things that weigh me down. I know in order to offer forgiveness though, I have to first be forgiven. So forgive me for the wrong I've done. Now I have the grace to shake off the "snake bite". Therefore, I will live and not die. I will be above and not beneath. Because You are my Hope and my Joy, and I give You praise in Jesus' name. Amen
