Today's Passage: Psalm 90
Memory Verse: Ps. 90: 10- 12
Funny how fast time flies! One minute, you're making a memorable trip to the United States for the purpose of attending college; the next, you're coming home after graduation to buy a home and begin a family. Not long after that, your kids are about as tall as you and you're all getting ready to funeralize your mother, who was there when they each were born.
Funny how you take for granted the moments that are really important-- moments as simple as sharing a meal together, and as impactful as helping your babies with their homework. You know time is precious when you see how quickly they outgrow their clothes! But through it all, God is faithful and walks with us every step of the way.
"So teach us to number our days" is an expression that really means teach us to keep in mind how precious our time together on earth is. We spend far too much time complaining about how hot it is, then when it cools down, we don't like the cool temperatures. If we're that way about our bodies, we're no doubt the same way about our loved ones --biological as well as spiritual Why Is God trying to get us to have attitudes of constant gratitude? Because those attitudes will bleed over into eternity.
I'm learning to appreciate every smile, every conversation, every gift, and every opportunity with the ones God gave me. Certainly, for those of us who call God Abba, Father, we'll never say goodbye to them. But He wants us to cherish our time together, not find every excuse to condemn one another. The Message Bible puts it this way: "Teach us to live wisely and well". And that is God's desire for His children.
Prayer: Father, thank You for many moments of laughs and tears with the spiritual and earthly family You gave us. Thank You for reminding us to cherish the time on earth, because everything it adds up to determines what kind of place we have provided for us. May our lives add up to the glory You intended us to display. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
